Is / will drive recorder be available for older build g05?

I wonder... (what I'm sure been asked before but I couldn't find it) can the car be coded to "fool" Bmw as if the car was in an area where it's being sold through connected drive although I am in the us?

Wow I just purchased it in Canada $99 for 3 years on my 2019 40i. It showed up after dealer put me on 2020.03.24

Just went on my Connected Store site and purchased it for $99 / 3 years. I'm in Canada. My 2019 X5 has software 11/2019.45. I just went to the iDrive Apps, hit Options, Updated and there it was. Very cool. Thanks guys.

Never give away for free, what you can charge good money for

Manufacturers don't give freebies. If the car wasn't sold with the feature, they won't give it away after the fact.

That's true. I had to pay $500 for Remote Start.

So what is BMW going to give us for Remote Software upgrades not working?

I mentioned this is another Thread, but I got BMW to give me DR for free as compensation for RSU not working and the inconvenience it has caused me in having to go to my dealer for an upgrade.

That's great that they compensated you. I've never had any luck that way. My X5 with software 11/2019.45 has been trouble free including Remote Start. It would be hard for me to just ask for it for free as I haven't had any paid option issues that went unresolved. Many of my things like Cornering Lights, iDrive, etc that didn't work was merely resolved through software upgrades. The $99 / 3 years for DR was palatable but yes, it would be great if they would just made it part of the car.

I do recall a number of X5's prior to my March 2019 delivery received a TSB giving them Remote Start at no charge where as I had to pay $500 for the option at the time of my build. I wasn't happy about that. So my understanding of Remote Start is just a software add on.

I'm sure in today's digital world we can expect more options to be delivered to us in this format where we are going to pay for those things that are over and above the basics. I'm ok with that as this gives BMW more incentive to create cool and unique options...again, should be options above the basics of Remote Start, CarPlay, Spotify, etc.

Off topic question, I think I've coded the video in motion using the BimmerCode App. I haven't been able to view these clips while driving. Has anyone been able to do so?

I have VIM coded and can watch normal videos at any speed, but I can't watch DR videos while driving. So obviously its not connected to the 'normal' VIM coding. There is probably separate coding that would do it but I'm not bothered - if I really need to watch a DR video, I'm going to want to be giving it my attention thus not be driving at the time.

I cannot find it on my options list (I can definitely remember seeing it before the last software update which changed the appearance of the apps) so I have emailed the connected drive store to see can they offer help
