M Sport Exhaust

This was done to death in the US...

But now cars have arrived in Europe, please can anyone with the M Sport exhaust confirm whether it makes any difference to the noise at all? e.g. raspy sound, overruns, pops etc?

I would like to know if fuel makes a difference, if mine is "broken" or whether it is BMW making a very unfunny joke.

Thanks in advance!

I am also interested to know. I'm considering upgrading to a M exhaust on my 40i as well because it is just too quiet. I almost feel like I'm driving an electric car.

I have 40i with M sport exhaust.

I have no comparision with standard 40i, but there is a big difference between comfort mode and sport/sport plus. The sound in sport is really nice and laud, but calmer then X3 M40i.

It sounds really nice but not so aggresive like M40i.

I agree, even the 50i isn't that agressive but it sounds good. I haven't toyed with mine that much yet so I can't say whether it pops like my M40i did

So the exhaust was one of the most important sounds to me when buying this car. You can't hear a difference in comfort mode but you can in Sport/Sport Plus... I drove the X3 M 40i and that exhaust is different, more popping sounding is what we came up with to describe it. The start up of the 50i just sounds real good when cold ... once it warms up then it fades a bit.

Part number info for the M sport exhaust. This is for the EU market.

Doesn't EU have some freaky particle filter law now which cancelled all performance exhausts - deeming them illegal.

That's the reason MPPSK is not available on some cars next year, correct?

Used to be Europe was the lucky one with all the performance cars (M3 evo, etc)
Now the M340 in Europe is limited to 335 HP when we are getting full 382 HP

We just had an MPE put on the M2. That thing set off the Alarm on the X5 in the garage. A bit off a different tone.

The current 50i V8 M Sport exhaust sounds great. It has a nice deep V8 rumble.I actually prefer it to the sound of the new V8 in the M850i,which sounds like crap in this video IMO.

From my understanding the particle filter is not part of the silencer as BMW often calls what we call a muffler.

The low end of the 50i M-Sport is impressive and my phone video doesn't capture the ground shaking low end. Every one looks at all fuel fill-ups. Lots of thumb ups. A parking garage is as good as it gets.

My coworkers said the opposite, then again they all drive larger vehicles (Gas F250 with the 6.2L V8), Tundra and the 5.7L V8, RR LWB Autobiography 5L V8. Hellcat (no explanation needed here). I think it sounds good for an SUV they're just jealous

Its refined muscle sounding. Doesnt sound like it's trying to be overly loud or ungenuine. A Mustang with strait pipes are louder but sounds like ......
There isn't any exhaust drone with the BMW yet sounds great.

No the 40i M Exhaust doesn't sound like that. It sounds good, but no deep rumbly tone like the 50i.

In comfort mode you don't notice it much, but in sport and sport+ mode it has a nice deep exhaust note.

The engine sounds good in Sport (may not even be piped, or at least it is genuine sounding) - but can someone with an MSport exhaust open their window and tell me whether they can hear the exhaust itself? We need to mount a go pro on the back and experiment...any one with time on their hands?!

Firmware/Software activation for M sport exhaust

Im trying to decide whether I order 30d or 50d (Australian delivery).

I drove a 30d today with the M Sport Exhaust (Performance Pack). Feels like Im driving a different car to the one without. Easy

I note the upgraded exhaust is an inexpensive option but I am wanting a near delivery date and looking only at cars in stock.

Car feels different but if I take note of the other threads here, maybe its simply the sound being piped through the speakers creating a different experience.

Has anyone figured out to update the firmware/software?
