is there any increase in wind/road noise by running spacers? I would assume the tires would be creating more drag if they start to stick out or are nearly flush based on how air flows around them

For the drag: 1. Speed 2. hp rating 3. Weight of the car For wind/tire noise: 1. Type of tire and brand 2. Tire pressure 3. Car insulation But, in general, you will not notice any difference.

I don't disagree with you for what it's worth. My X5 has acoustic glass to further reduce the noise

Seems like all the Gremlins are gone with the car?

since the factory lugs don't fit with spacers what is everyone doing for the lug lock? do they make an extended lug lock set?

If you go with RG and stock rims, they will supply correct length bolts with your spacers. Much less "fun" ... ... unless one of your stock bolts turns out to be stuck inside the stock rim ... like I said, much more to the story.

Are the front and rear OEM lug nut length both 27mm? Trying to determine that length of lug nut required if i did a +15mm front spacer and +20mm rear.

torn right now on decisions...you can get reps for the 742M wheels in black and regular finish and they are actually 10" front, 11" rear instead of the oem 9.5" and 10.5". That means you could throw a 295 tire on front and 325 on rear essentially. Question is will .5" wider rim all around look that much different than just doing spacers on my current configuration?

Adding bolt-through spacers in that case just adds that thickness to required bolt length. It doesn't have to be quite exact, a couple of mm either way will normally be close enough, but I would start to pay careful attention around and above say +/- 2mm for sure. Note also that thicker spacers are not necessarily bolt-through and rather do a two stage mount: spacer to hub, then rim to spacer. 20mm is probably at the edge of where that becomes a necessity. My rear winter non-stock rim spacer at 22.5mm is like that. This requires further bolt attention. Normally a spacer supplier will give you the right spacer to hub bolts, but they need to know your exact car model to do that. Rim to spacer bolts will be stock 27mm for stock rims, and something else for non-stock rims.

The thread pitch size is 14x1.25 RG sport told me I needed 43mm and 50mm locks respectively. I didn't want 2 sets of locks with 2 different keys, so I decided to "split" the difference, and order a set of 47mm locks. I really don't think 3mm in either direction is going to render the car "unsafe" by any means. I don't have the car yet, but I don't expect any issues. EDIT: This post was updated, as I received incorrect info from RGsport.

Presumably 40mm and 45mm.
I imagine you could get a 42 or 43mm set of 4 and be just fine

M14x1.5 is NOT THE CORRECT BOLT!!! [/COLOR]G05 is definitely M14x1.25 !!! And 3mm off in either direction may or may not be usable or safe and requires test fitment before finalizing the mount. If too long, a) may bottom out in the hub and not tighten to spec, or b) in the case of bolt-on spacers, may "protrude" and apply counter pressure to the hub (harder to explain without a diagram). If too short, may not retain torqued force and loosen. Regarding too short, I believe the rule of thumb is minimum of 10 turns depth (for M14x1.25, will be different for different bolt specs), but that needs to be verified. https://blog.moddedeuros.com/how-to-...-or-volkswagen https://www.drivenproducts.com/blogs...ead-engagement Finally, I would NEVER use a lug bolt of unknown construction and origin i.e. "random shit off eBay". That's fine for pretty stickers and trunk nets, not a critical safety component like a lug bolt. The issue isn't whether someone steals your wheels, the issue is that an unknown bolt can sheer off under driving stress and kill you, your family, and others. To be sure, there are very fine Chinese bolts, but I won't be mentioning them in RG Sport's thread. If these issues are too complicated (and they can be, no shame), you should not be dealing with rims and custom wheel mounting setups yourself.

Thanks for your .....umm.... "advice". I think the locking lugbolts will suffice, being US made hardened steel. I think I'll be ok.
More importantly, M14x1.5 is what RGSport told me, and presumable matches the bolts they sent me with the H&R spacers. I haven't visually checked to see if the threads match yet though. I'll check this evening. If not, I still have 20 H&R bolts to do the install until I buy another set of locks. If you are correct, then hopefully they sent me the correct thread pitch, and just typed it incorrectly in their email. |

Ok... you were right about the size. It is M14x1.25.
I also just visually checked it. Turns out, they SENT me the correct lug size.... but then told me a different size in an email. Thanks RG Sport. I just ordered a 47mm set from ECS Tuning in the correct size. https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3...pacers/?pdk=BQ Going to update the post above. |
