Any updates on availability, specifically for 2019 X5s?

The 2020's have it, but I heard in another forum that it requires a hardware upgrade for 2019's. Don't know for sure, but sounds reasonable since storing the video requires a hard drive interface.

No hardware upgrade required. You need park assistant plus and the drive recorder connected drive subscription.

Many 2019 users have it in AUSY and Canada.

I have 11/2019 on a UK car and don't have it offered in the store?

Why do we have to start different threads for the same topic? If used properly, the search feature on this forum works like a charm. Plus this should be posted in the iDrive section and if that was done then a thread on this would have popped up right away

I don't think it's available as a retro purchase for MY2019 in the UK yet.

It's not even listed on the store yet as a package for any vehicle. Wish it was, I'm keen to get it too.

I don't think the UK posters that have it got it via CD store. They don't say, so I assume it came on the car.

Its not offered in the CD store in the UK for most of us, that much is true. But if we have UK owners who have it working on cars delivered back in 2019, we know it must be available somehow

An Australian X5 built in March 2019 has it working, so the talk of needing hardware for cars built before July 2019 also doesn't seem correct.

BMW have done a terrible job of communicating requirements and rolling out the feature.

Ah I see. MY2020 were delivered with DR in 2019 and came with istep 07/2019 and 6DR in the order. It's still an app though.

Those of us in the UK with MY2019 need 11/2019 and BMW UK to release it in CD.

It shouldn't need a later istep (03/2020)in the UK as it's a CD app but you never know.

I have this spec'd on my order which is great as means I don't have to transfer my MiWitness from my M4. Love the fact it's integrated. I'm assuming it auto records like a normal dash cam every time you start the car?

There's already a thread on this topic: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1698825

You need to have the Driver Assist Professional package, and be on at least 11/2019.xx.

My understanding is that when you login to you BMW Connected Drive account, it knows you car and the options/features it has via the VIN, and only exposes it in your CD Store if your car supports it.

Here's what it looks like front, rear and both sides.

Hi, sadly it's not as good as you think it may be. Firstly it uses the external cameras, which on a wet, salty, dirty road make it almost useless.

Secondly, even though there's a big old hard drive in the car. It only saves 40 second clips.
20 seconds before the impact. No info on how big the impact needs to be. I.e. heavy braking or an actual collision. Also, you'd think it would record on a horn honk like a Tesla, it doesn't.

You can manually trigger it by pressing and holding on the panorama button but you're still limited to the 40 seconds. 20 before and 20 after you trigger it.

20 seconds is a long time when you consider a car travelling at 30 mph is moving at 44 feet per second. So that is nearly 300 yards of travel.

Yeah... Unless for security reasons, not sure why you would want more than 40 seconds of run time in the event of an accident.

Thanks mate. Hadn't thought about the external camera aspect. Bit short sighted by BMW as they could have integrated one into the internal camera housing used for HBA and speed limit recognition (I'm assuming like on the M4 it's in front of the rear view mirror) and also have their (horrid) OEM ACE 2.0 camera to learn from.

Not too worried about the 40 sec aspect though as that's similar to most after market cameras. The hard-drive should be more than adequate given most cameras record to SD card.

Is there any UK owners on this thread that has confirmed that that have the recorder? I'm currently on the 11 software and can't see the app, nor can I see it on the store. Oddly I just looked at the online config, and it confirmed that I should have it. See attached.

It's not available yet, don't panic!

It wasn't available when you ordered your car but has since been added to order hence the configurator difference.
