2020 X5 40i Production Delays

Dealer told my friend who ordered 2020 X5 40i theee weeks ago that it will not not likely start production until sometime in October with delivery in early November. And he lives in SC. Normally takes 4-6 weeks from order to delivery. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas why the delay?

Forgot about that, I was able to use the first allocation at the dealership.

None that I am aware of. After almost a week of pressing for updates from my dealership, I received a production number about 3 weeks ago. Assembly was completed this past Monday and current status shows my 2020 X5 has been "Dispatched from Factory".

They're having trouble teaching the production line how to properly stretch the extended Merino Leather upholstery during installation.

Same dates here with my M50i.

Although, she initially told it was because of "all the individual options" I selected. I did get everything but the night vision and remote parking so maybe? Did you include a lot of options on the vehicle?

Seats for the G05 are supplied via Magna out of Duncan, SC. A supplier to BMW Manufacturing.

Does your friend have a production number? If he doesn't then you dealer hasn't assigned him an allocation for the build. The dealer is probably waiting for BMW to give him allocation for a slot in production.

So I ordered an m50i last week and it's now in "production begins" and has a VIN number. Does that mean my real wait begins? Never ordered a car before.

You are really in the build process; parts your car that will be needed for the main assembly line are being put together. More info here:

No production number yet. Lots of options. He has to turn his lease to Toyota this week and won’t have a car. Initially they promised him a loaner X3 until delivery. Now they say no loaner until his X5 production starts which they estimated in October. Between him, me and my wife we ordered three BMWs in the last two months from this dealer. I may need to lend him one of my cars.

Production Week 34 on mine, and we are now almost at the end of Production Week 35, with both cars still in "Quality Check," where they have been for about a week. Possibly because of packages ordered, but presumably that would have been taken into account in the original estimated completion date. So yes, I would say production delays on my specific cars, cause as yet unknown. There is a hurricane headed somewhere in their direction.

So the 800 number said completion by September 9th. Not sure how accurate that is Bc it would seem to be fast. I'm in south Florida and have a one way ticket out for Saturday if this storm moves any more south so that'll give me a lot of time to obsess over it's status then.

For my build the completion date was close, it took a day longer than what the phone said.
