Those were my thoughts exactly when I first watched this.

He's def not a bmw lover but I do really enjoy his videos. I actually live in the area where he films and see him and his crew often driving around.
For all you f80 owners google his other video for the f80...great video!!! #savagegeesef80

Excellent video production, fantastic Jazz piano intro and solid review as well.
Such a nice mental break from the current flow of seemingly never ending stream of sad, depressing and just bad news all over.

However, it's not a premium system for a luxury car. The B&W system is the legit upgrade. The HK system is really just a base+ audio system. I don't think the HK sounds bad, but when you have Lexicon systems from Genesis and Mark Levinson systems in Lexus that sound 10x better and even the B&W in BMWs, I think it's more just an expectation thing. If BMW had made it the standard system, it'd be considered a really good base audio system. IMO HK is a necessary upgrade and I prioritized it even over M Sport and the premium package. In fact, I was a bit salty that I HAD to pick the premium package to get the HK, though I probably would have specced it that way regardless. |

I have to say the base stereo in the G20 3 Series is really good to my ears, but the one in the G30 5er, not so much.

Love this guy's reviews. No matter what make or model, he's thorough and insightful. He knows a lot more about cars and driving than most motoring journos.
I'd never buy an SUV, never mind an X5, but enjoyed watching.

I’ve had cheap rentals that better, clearer sound. The problem with the HK can be clearly seen in that audio chart he posted. Very uneven frequency response, and while you can play with the EQ to correct it, you’d need expensive audio equipment to tune it correctly. Even then, it will not sound right because there are dips in there too narrow to fix with the EQ. Some sounds/instruments/music will simply sound wrong. On top of it they’re playing engine sounds through it at all times. The HK IMO becomes bearable when you upgrade the speakers, like a Bavsound plug and play system upgrade. (I’m in the middle of this right now). At that point, you’re spending another $1,500 on top of the original $700-800 for the HK, might as well go for the B&W directly. I wish they offered the B&W on the M3, I’d have gotten it in a heartbeat. Sorry to rant, I like the X5 very much, it is a fine vehicle.

It’s good that Mark happens to be a Hi-fi buff as well.
His more recent vids featuring Jack are really good value - their banter is well honed. I used to enjoy Turbowski’s laconic humour, but Jack’s more substantive contributions seem to resonate well with me. Mark likes BMW’s and I remember seeing a vid on the used M3 he bought, on which he got burnt a little. |
