Similar experience. Approach and walk-away lock enabled.

2025 X5 in garage, other car in driveway. Walked up to X5, it unlocked automatically (as it's supposed to), dropped off keys, coffee, etc. Shut the door. Walked to driveway car with wife (who has her phone on her and is also linked to X5). X5 then locked (fob inside). Had to take my wife's phone back to X5 to unlock, opened door so it wouldn't re-lock, and then took phone back to wife in driveway. Weird. As someone else mentioned, maybe the phone trumps the fob?

If you had the other fob on you I'm sure same would have happened, if you leave phone in car and walk away with fob I suspect it would also happen.

Hard to figure. I use iPhone exclusively but when we travel my wife has the fob in her purse. Our experience is that the fob trumps the phone more often than not. Go figure.

Probably right. I do like the lock/unlock feature with approach/walk away, but I wish it would recognize the key fob or phone that's actually inside the vehicle and NOT lock it (automatically), no matter what it detects outside of vehicle. First world problems lol.

Not first world , my GLE wouldn't lock if fob was inside, assume this is a mercedes feature and probably other manufacturers.

Just meant, it probably sounds petty...my complaining. However, as from OP, it can actually cause issues. My situation was easily fixed, but I can see how this could pose a big problem. If there is any source of owner recognition in the vehicle, it shouldn't automatically lock.

No problem, you are correct it shouldn't automatically lock. You would expect BMW to consult with customers to see what they wanted and I'm sure not many would ask for the ability to lock the car with the keys inside.
