Supply shortage 22 inch rims
My dealer has just informed me that my delivery date has been pushed back 8 weeks. The reason seems to be a supply shortage for all 22 inch rims. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

My 21 inch ride with RFT is great. I have air suspension.

When did you order and when was your production planned? M60i I presume? I was asking my dealer about this and he always said that there's no issues. Worst case I would've ordered the 21" M741 mentioned above since I was planning to use those for my winter tires anyway and get the M747 separately. I even like the older design without the inside of the rims painted black better but so far he didn't mention anything so it seems it will be the 22" M747. (Production should start any day now.) 22" M747 for summer and those 21" M741 for winter is the way to go for me. Not a lot of spokes on the M747 and the ride quality seems to be fine with air suspension at least according to many voices on this forum. Last edited by SwissBeemer; 06-16-2023 at 02:53 AM.. |

The sidewalls aren't thin on the 22s and they are much softer than the reinforced sidewalls in the 21 runflats so are less harsh.

The 22 look great ride is good until you make a left or right at a intersection and car rock with a lot or left and right as it upsets the suspension and makes your passengers say what the hell..over rough roads

Of course, mine are black, so I doubt there would be much visual difference between 21's and 22's.

I came from a G05 with 20" RFTs with Adaptive M, and they ride damn rough; little indents on roads seem like massive potholes, and I dont see why I need to dish out more $$$ to order Air Suspension to compensate for crap riding tyres that BMW decide to put on their cars. When I moved into my 2021 X5 with 22"s, I was expecting a rough ride too, but I was really surprised at the soft/absorbing and more compliant ride they give. No longer feel the need for Air Suspension. You will love the 22's, especially if you're getting the standard or Adaptive M suspension. Order your car with them, they are worth the wait, you wont regret it. |

I have had the 22's on 2 go5's and with air suspension the ride is great even on our roads.

I would wait for 22s - I had 21's for 3 years, with and without RFT and believed they offered more comfort.
Finally got 22's after 3 years and I wish I'd pulled the trigger years ago now. Visually the difference is huge - the 21's are nice but the 22's make the car look so much more complete. Ride comfort is barely noticeable, and the 22 Contis are a better trye than the 21 Pirellis, so it handles better. I now think 21 is possibly a worst of all worlds - not big enough to look great, not small enough to be the ultimate comfort choice. May as well either go 20 with non RFT, or 22 and be done with it. |

Everyone has there own take on this. I custom ordered my car with air suspension and 3rd row. The car rides buttery smooth with air and RFT.
With MSport the RFT could be a pain but with air I’m fine with them. For my family safety is a higher priority so I went with RFT. In the case of a flat tire, in most situations we would be able to drive a few miles and stop at a safe location with the RFT. Never was a fan of sporty SUVs. It can never feel like a hardcore sports car, so I prefer smoother rides in big cars. For fun I have a M2C.

So very happy with my 22’s and summer tires. One of the better choices I made. Yes, sourcing tires can be a challenge. But RFTs are really just aweful - seriously, ‘safer’? Only in the marketing material. (Note - I have a 20” set for winter!)
Enjoy the 22’s. |

Own both sizes for the same vehicle and trade back and forth.
The 21” AS rides quieter and is a better choice for road trips and can handle mixed weather including snow and slush. My 22”ers look just a touch better but they are useless in cold weather below 40 degrees and are a liability in any snow or slush making them a horrendous choice for anyone living on a 4 season climate. Tire manufacture actually states the summer performance tires are not designed and are not warranted for temperatures below 40 degrees. A 21” square setup is a far better choice with more tire options, more that twice the tire mileage lifespan than a staggered 22”. Last edited by MystroX5; 06-18-2023 at 06:02 AM.. |

The problem with the non run flats is that the handling is somewhat compromised. If you have DHP/active rollbar stabilization then you're fine. But my experience has being the moment you switch too non run flats you definitely experience some additional roll. Its not horrible, but you do notice it.
