Open door - Electric mode shuts off

I noticed that when I stopped or parked, the car will shut off (Electric Mode) once I open the door to run out and grab something. Then have to push the start/stop to turn back on again. Is this normal that it turns off every time you open the door? Is there a way to disable this feature?

FWIW, same in my Cayenne Hybrid too. Blame those idiots that get out of their cars with the vehicle in gear and then it drives away.

It has nothing to do with cars in gears. Even at park, 45e does this as long as
1) driver seat belt isn't buckled
2) ICE isn't running.

If you buckle driver seat belt (behind back), then open door, car won't shut off. Or if you force ICE on at park, open door, car won't shut off.

Yes but those fools are the root cause. That was my only point there.

Garage List
no way to disable but can be worked around. what is your concern with it turning off? to keep HVAC running? to keep radio running? just inconvenient to restart?

I suppose inconvenient to restart or might not be good to stop then start in a short amount of time. I may be wrong

Use this to prevent the shut off. And you will also have a beer bottle opener ready wherever you go.

just another super-ergonomic and overly-futuristic feature of the LCI

Even if "Modern vehicles are designed to survive frequent start/stop sessions..." that engine starter and the engine itself is getting unnecessary, additional wear.

The material that never gets worn neither has been discovered yet nor it would be in the mfgr interest to use it (otherwise their after-sales will become extinct).

BMWs for ages have shut off if the driver's door is opened and the seatbelt is unfastened...it's not new to the LCI by any means. My 2011 BMW did the same thing. IT's hard to get run over if the vehicle puts itself in park and shuts off when you open the door.

I sold it when I bought the X5, but I owned a 2011 BMW GT. It would turn the motor off if I opened the driver's door and did not have my seatbelt on.
