Gap between trunk and bumper?

Am I going crazy or do I have too much of a gap between my trunk and bumper?

This X5 is brand new from the factory too! Only two months old. I will set up an appointment with my local BMW I guess. I just wonder if they are going to tell me this is normal and if I should settle for that. Would it be a minor adjustment or do I need a whole new trunk?

I think it’s normal. I noticed something similar on my 2021 45e. You can try to see how other pre-LCI G05s look at the dealership lot to be sure.

Same as in my 22 45e. It is larger than I expected.

This is really too large. You can even say what's behind. It's not that large on my 45e.

Could you post a picture to confirm? Thanks.

It's difficult to tell by the pictures but on ours, you can see the tabs of the bumper and the notches on the body those tabs are supposed to click into. After we got rear-ended the bumper was replaced and I noticed, through the large gap you're asking about, that the tabs were not properly clicked into the holes/notches and instead were on top of the holes. We took it back and had it corrected. The gap is still large, arguably the same as it was before the tab/notch issue was corrected, but it's worth taking a closer look.

'21 40i here, that gap is 1/4" on mine. I can't see anything in, behind or through the gap.

let me measure mine tonight. typically our line of sight is way above that gap, even myself was not able to see what is inside the gap until one time, I was in my 1 series following my wife driving 45e. At the drive height of 1 series, I am about line up with the gap's height, and I can see clips inside at that angle.

If I get down even with the level of the gap and shine a flashlight in it, then I can see stuff like what you see in JillX5M's pic, otherwise I cannot. When you open the bottom half of the tailgate, that 1/4" gap appears to reduce a little as the tailgate opens so you certainly would not want anything smaller than the 1/4".
