H/K Speaker rattle
Hello all, just wondering if anyone else is have any issues with speaker or trim rattle in their X5? I am having one in my left rear door, right in my ear, and its quite disappointing. Goes into dealer tomorrow for that as well as an issue where the green "auto" wiper LED is very dim when turned on, not even visible in daylight.
This is my 4th BMW now and pretty much the first time in for anything, just wish it wasn't before the first payment on my most expensive one yet... |

I think I have the same issue. I'm not sure if it's from the rear speaker or the driver door. The only problem is, it's a crap shoot whether or not it can be replicated at the dealership. If the tech says he doesn't hear anything, you'd have to be willing to put up a fight to get them to fix it.

While not on an X5, my G01 X3 M40i had nearly every HK speaker replaced for rattle at some point. I haven't even owned the car a full year yet so it seems the trend continues into the X5

Mine would rattle from the ASD (which I then disabled) and mid range tones which could be proven by messing with your EQ. I suspect it's the same here

Mine is definitely the speaker buzzing at certain frequencies. Sounds like a blown speaker. It does it on mid frequencies and mid volume. Some songs it's hardly noticeable but I can always find a song that will repeat. First shot dealer said there was something in the door pocket, which there wasn't.

Download an app on your phone called "Tone Gen." Then have your car stereo play audio from your phone. You can play any frequency... find the offending frequency so you can show the service department.

I have to be honest, I'm pretty tech savvy and I have no clue what to do with this app.

I see, so you are playing this sound from the app thru the speakers. Curious to try this out

Just download a frequency sweep to a mp3. Keep in mind every vehicle will have a resonating frequency where it will vibrate crazy. This is one of the first thing I do setting up a new cars audio system.

My background is acoustic engineering. I like to test each speaker to listen to their strengths and weaknesses. There location also is factored in. Once I get a idea of what each speaker is doing, I can then set up the eq more efficiently.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I meant is there a way for a non-engineer to use this information?

Absolutely. I just use YouTube videos and use it as part of the equalization process. Great suggestion by the way!

It's definitely at certain frequencies. So in my case I've realized the buzz/rattle is coming from driver side B pillar. Bottom half of B pillar is plastic which tends to rattle or has something inside that rattles. My only way to kill the rattle was by me having my elbow pushing the B pillar during that frequency. Everyone please test out the song Outta Time (feat. Drake) by Bryson Tiller time stamp 1:12-1:34. The rattle happens twice. Make sure your bass is high and volume is 60%. I do believe this is a QC issue."
