I can give you a real world example (sadly). I had to vacate my car after the accident because there were flammable fluids everywhere and the car who hit me caught fire. So while I was on the side of the road, I connected to my dash cam over wifi and downloaded footage to show the police and the driver that I was pushed into in front.

Eventually the X5 completely shut down, due to that explosive disconnect on the battery. I wasn’t able to access it again, even though I brought a jumper kit the next day. So if you get into a big enough accident, it’s very difficult to pull footage. Easier to just pull the dashcam footage either physically (SD) or via wifi (I have a parking battery, so the camera always has power).

Who ever buys the salvage will have an interesting video to watch though!

interesting. that's fair. and crappy that you had to deal with it.
