Get married at your local courthouse.

Some random person I found on the internet.

Get married at the courthouse. Then, drive to Laguna Beach and Honeymoon there.

Better hurry before gas prices go up though. Don't want to go over budget by 20%.

We had the wedding at my best friends parents house (my other parents), found an inexpensive catering company (not the best food, but not bad either), bought bud light and 2 buck chuck for drinks, made an iTunes playlist instead of a DJ, my sister made the cake (her wedding gift to me), hired a high school girl to take pictures (they came out amazing!), and we just had a good ol' shindig. It was just like a big family reunion and everyone had a blast.

Oh and the $2000 included my wife's dress. We spent $400 on it and my wife thought it was way to expensive.

If your girl is that hung up on useless material BS then this is the time to GET THE FUCK OUT of the money pit. She will be a fucking parasite that will drain your bank account once you get married.. Mommy and daddy supported her expensive tastes and now it's your turn, sucker.. And her friend can be totally BS her about the price, as most rich girls tend to lie about shit like this.. Unless she gets the ring appraised, for all your know it might be worth only $15-$20k. My chicks ring looks way more expensive than it really is because of the design.

If you wish to continue this route then put the $50k in a savings account.. Spend $10k on the ring and save the rest of your divorce lawyer fund.

BTW are you currently living with your girl and if so for how long?
I like this guy. Tells it exactly how it is.

We got married on Maui through private company (not the hotel). Package price of about $1600. Included license, ceremony, pictures, video, flowers, etc. Called them up, told them which package we wanted, picked the day and time and troubles were over. No one came with us and I think both of our families were ok with not blowing a huge amount of money for such a short amount of time.

We then spent 10 days on Maui and the big island. We decided the $2k wedding and $6k vacation sounded a lot better than the $8k wedding that would be over in a few hours (especially with all of the hassles that come with a wedding).

Much more fun to plan a vacation than a wedding and with all of the weddings I have been to no question I would rather spend 10 days in Hawaii over 4 hours at a wedding.

It is very easy for us middle aged guys to sound like a bunch of burnt out deadbeats but WE ARE RIGHT.

I'd keep the ring around $10K, anything more is genuinely absurd. To be frank though, i'd just bail on this girl, you need to remember that this is the REST OF YOUR FUCKING LIFE. Well it is if you have kids 'cos even if you divorce you are still stuck with her.

Choose your mate very, very carefully.

I spent less than $1000 on my moissanite engagement ring. Bought it in senior year of college. We're still together 10 years later and have 2 kids. If a girl really loves you, she doesn't need a real diamond. Her ring looks something like this one:
http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Wat...4&searchidx=32

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy a real diamond ring, but $50k is ridiculous.

I bought my wife a 1 carat ring for 3200 in 2007 and she loved it. We do well for ourselves and she is still happy with it. I bought her small diamond earrings and a wrap for her engagement ring recently for 1700 and she was ecstatic.

We had a 14000 wedding (at a winery) and all our relatives said it was the best wedding they had ever been to, even my younger cousins had a blast.

It's not about the money, it's the fact that you plan it out and make it special for her (it's all in the presentation). OP, sounds like you have a classic high maintenance woman on your hands. Not a bad thing. Besides coming from a wealthy family, what else does she have to offer that would warrant a 50000 ring?

Hey guys, the OP's girlfriend's friend said she got a $50K ring, not the OP's.
