But his 2023 is an M50i, and he'd be going to a 2024 40i. That's ~120 hp less.
To the OP - That fact alone makes the choice pretty easy IMO. Most of the differences are subjective when comparing the 2 cars, but the performance speaks for itself. The LCI is fine - like I have no major issues with it (except for that ridiculous <<<<\\\\||////>>>> on the dashboard , WHY BMW?) - they've done a few things that make the car mildly better, and a few things that make it mildly worse. Its basically a wash for me so I'm indifferent either way. However if the differentiator in the choice is M50i v 40i for the same price, its an absolute no brainer to go with the extra power, whichever MY that happens to be. Definitely get the M50i. I picked one up back in December and 8 months later, I still feel like a kid driving that wonderful V8 every day. Most of my previous vehicles, the joy of the new car disappeared after a few months but this one, I still baby like I just picked her up yesterday.
