45e - does it take some time for battery to calibrate?

I picked up my new 45e yesterday, love everything about the car and its tech.

It had very little charge at pick-up, drove it home on the ICE. Charged it overnight to 100%. When fully charged, it was showing an estimated range of 21 miles.

Throughout the day, I drove ~20 miles on mostly electric (maybe 1-2 miles on ICE), and pre-conditioned it a couple times. It's about 25 degrees outside here - cold, but not crazy cold...

It was down to 4 miles of electric range left when I plugged it in again in the evening.

Curious if the initial 21 is a "wild guess" given the car was very new and just had its first charge. I think closer to 30 miles is what folks are generally seeing, with 30-40 miles depending on usage in the real world?

Thanks.

The range is a rolling average of about the last 18-miles of use, so on a brand new vehicle, it starts out with the EPA value, and moves from there based on your actual power drain and use. It may have sat on for a bit without moving when you were checking things out, so that would mean energy use, but no miles driven, driving down the rolling average.

In the winter, you may not see 30-miles on a USA version depending on how cold it is and what you're doing. You may see closer to 40-miles in the spring and fall when it may not need much HVAC running.

Mine took about two weeks to settle in to displaying 30-34mi after charging now, in the winter in MD. Prior to that it was all over the map.

The first day at home charging, my 45e boldly declared a 75mi range.

Great motivation - loved the enthusiasm. But fell short of its goal.

Give it about two full days of driving and it'll land somewhere around 30mi (for US spec).

Live at the bottom of a long grade, or coming out of the mountains then charge it, and you could see some REALLY big numbers. Typical problem, though, is you have to go back up!
