Sorry to hear that and it's an eyesore. Some people just don't value others' property. Even if you park far away, someone will manage to park right next to you, probably just to irk the heck out of ya.

Why can't people just respect other people's property. I literally park far away and make sure it's a spot where it has the least chance of getting dinged.. and always some ass has to park right next to me and leave me no room to get in... sorry this hAppened to you.

Losers everywhere trying to mess around.
I park so far at large corner spots that you need to walk a mile at the minimum from wherever I go, and away from idiots. I like walking so it works out for me!

Update: I found this dent literally minutes before heading to my dealer for scheduled winter tire change. I asked them for an estimate. Bad news: A whopping $1700 Canadian dollars, or $1400 US. BUT…I seem to have a warranty for cosmetic damage! It's going to be fully covered!
If I hadn't had that appointment I probably would have taken it somewhere else, and paid out of pocket, because I'd TOTALLY forgotten about the warranty. It was the worst of days, it was the best of days… |

Happened to me this past Saturday at a college football game. Climbing over that center console while avoiding stepping on the seats ain't so much fun!

I’m sorry this has happened and as others have mentioned it’s nearly impossible to avoid at times. When I used to go into work I had a couple spots scoped out that were ideal for non-malevolent encounters with car doors. I made sure to hug the curb next to an island so there was only one side exposed and gave the other person extra room to maneuver. Before implementing this strategy, I had observed clueless coworkers dragging their pointy umbrellas against my roof on rainy days. I wonder if there are any dash cams that can be triggered by car doors?

I had that happen a few years back when i just purchased my last car. I was at the Disneyland parking garage and if you've been...you know they have attendants line up cars to file in spots in an orderly manner...one car after the next...leaving no spot empty in between.
I park my car, and the back door of the car parked to my right...some kid swings his door open wildly and smacks right into my rear passenger door...putting in a dime sized dent. No acknowledgment from that family and while i was pissed...i was not going to let that rain on my day (i didn't even have the actual license plates delivered by the DMV yet...that's how new the car was). |

While not something you want to wish on yourself, I've had a handicapped tag for a few years now, and try to pick spaces that have big buffers around them meant to accommodate vans. Prior to that, I did try to park further away and walk...doesn't really work for me now, though.
My last daily driver was the i3, and with the plastic skinned door panels, you didn't get dents, but if it was really bad, it could still damage the paint. Luckily, I never had that happen. If you got hit hard enough to dent that stuff, it was more likely a moving hit versus a door, and then, you'd have other problems! |

I think 20 something me would have caused a scene…but that kid is long gone now (channeling my inner Red from Shawshank) I just said to myself “ehh eventually a shopping cart will make contact with the car (true)” and a kind person was nice enough to balance out the dings by hitting my drivers side door a few months later. |
