I expect that there is additional battery capacity hidden in the system but as many said we would not want to void any warranty for another few miles of range.

Mission Performance is a pertty reputable tuner (when it comes to engines tunes.) I'm sure they did due dilligence and probably are not getting to every thread as quickly as some of the regular members.

Knowing that OEM's have made no maintenance provision to swap out lithium modules at the end of useful life (sorry, just scrap the EV/PHEV after 8 years), folks may want to treat their battery life carefully. Getting more range from a battery module is definitely possible but there are definite trade-offs. Also note that OEM CFO's have made no provision for replacing "worn out" battery packs under warranty, so expect them to fight tooth and nail to prevent owners from ever cashing in on their battery warranties except under super-lemon circumstances.
How is there a warranty on the battery back if it can't be replaced? What happens if it needs to be replaced?

~51 miles for EU models. ~30 miles for US models.
EU is 6 years or 100000km

The battery (and individual cells) of BMW's can be replaced. The procedure is described in an official BMW document for G05 45e, for example.

That's why I found his post confusing.

It runs over $30k to replace all the cell modules in an 21kWh i3, so either way, the battery won't be cheap in the X5 either.

imo its just a stupid thing to do and not worth it. it's a PHEV not an EV. This "range extender" will lower the life of the battery and you will 100% void your battery warranty. God forbid anything happens that an expensive fix. and lets not forget your independent repair facilities for the most part are not working on these types of vehicles yet and do not have the tools and computer to replace a battery.

Being an established company in performance tuning of all late model BMWs, we had to go back to the drawing board with the hybrid power train and make your requests come true. Being known not only for astonishing performance gains, but also extreme durability/reliability and working hand in hand with Toyota NA on the supra tuning release in 2019, we had to make sure that the product we built not only delivers on the miles extension part, but is also safe and reliable for our customers.

As soon as our company test vehicle was delivered, we went to work hoping to bring this solution to the market by the end of the year. Code disassembly, modification and thousands of test miles resulted in a perfect solution for all of our customers. With our solution, customers can flash their vehicles with new firmware that has been tested to 70 miles on a full charge!

Of course remember that your actual mileage will vary dramatically by your driving style and consumption loads, but expect up to 25kwh usable capacity. Further, we have done modifications to improve electric motor efficiency, resulting in lower wh/mile usage! With our test vehicle covering the same daily 55mile commute for the last 2 months, we have never had to use ICE and have been seeing an average of 380wh/miles consumption, resulting in a range north of 60 miles!

Merry Christmas!
Hello,

Can you update us on your test vehicle battery health and performance and answer questions that have been asked in this thread?

1 or 2 dudes in the FB group did it. the first one is very vocal about it and loves it. no issues.

i was highly considering doing this, but my vehicle just got flagged last week for the HV battery recall campaign

no, it's the same campaign, but the end date of affected vehicles was just updated last week. It was extended from the original Sep 2020 to Jan 2021; mine was built in Dec 2020

Mine was built on Oct 2020, but I just checked my VIN with BMW and I don't have any open recalls. Is it just specific vehicles?

These tuners really are ignoring the fact that BMW now blacklists your car if its the ecu or any other module has been modified in any way.

Can you elaborate a little on this? What does blacklist mean in practical terms?

Does this also apply to tweaks available through something like BimmerCode?

yes, specific vehicles. i read in another thread that U.S. 45e with '5UX' at the beginning of the VIN are affected.

let's hope yours stays that way. mine was clear for a while then a message showed up in MyGarage.

I think certain X5's with VIN starting with 5UX are affected, probably all or some of those that were built in the time slot that you indicated: my VIN starts with 5UX but have received no recall notice - mine was built in June 2021 though.

thanks for clarifying not all 45e with 5UX VIN are affected; just certain ones built between Feb 2020 to Jan 2021

Ugh. So sorry you got snared up in it. Hopefully the supply issues don't mean a delay in fixing the thing

that is my biggest worry. my SA will not/cannot release my vehicle to me until it's fixed. My hope is that there are no issues with any of the battery modules when they go to test them (fingers crossed)
