Driver Profile question
hi all, I have 2024 X5 with iDrive8.5.
I have BMW ID and profile setup. How do I create second profile for my wife? does she have to create a BMW ID and then switch ID when she is driving? |

She can use guest as a profile but to save custom settings for her you just need to register a BMW profile for her, log in to that in the X5 and tie it to the second key fob. That way driver's seat position (just press memory #1), HUD, and other specific settings are automatically set for her while using the fob.

I think if you're both in the vehicle and both of you have your fobs, it can get a little messy as it does not appear that the vehicle uses your position (i.e., which seat) you're in, but maybe the first fob it detects...so play with it a little and see who it 'welcomes' to get it to have the proper profile. Curious, if you learn for sure, let us know.

Each driver profile must have their own BMW account.

Technology for technology sake. Our '21 Durango allowed you to set up multiple profiles without having to have the app and an account. Much easier that way. Also, we don't want to have to figure out which keyfob we want to use based on who's driving. PITA.

You can switch profiles simply by entering the PIN associated with the particular account, so it doesn't matter which fob you use...however, the fob will load that particular account provided it is used as the driver recognition

No, the primary and secondary users are designated online in MyGarage.

Hmm. The car was a gift. The buyer bought it, and has the primary user status. It was sighed over to me, but I don't have access to the person who created the primary account. Weird, I know. I just want to make sure I don't lock myself out of the primary user account

You can link both keys to your profile then it won’t matter which key is present. If she doesn’t drive it, or not very often, then use the same profile and setup the 2nd memory position for her seats etc. You

When we are together, I'm not sure if the car is picking up the key fobs or one of the cell phones first? I took just one of my phones this evening for a quick drive and it kept prompting me to select a profile when I got in the car. Not sure how to associate a profile automatically with the iphone's digital key? If anyone knows, please share! |

Right now we just have a single BMW ID (me), and we've set my wife's seat memory to #1 and myself to #2. The way we're used to it working (E93 & E70) is whomever unlocked the car (or whichever key was detected first) would recall that driver's seat memory. Is that still the case?
Do you really need to setup a second driver ID / account? What are the benefits of doing so, or what can't you do if you just have a single ID? Our E70 wasn't nearly this complicated.

Advantage of using key fob #2 with a new profile is you can have different settings more than just seat configuration. Maybe you like your dashboard or center display to look differently that what your wife prefers, or different idrive settings. Differently profiles lets you save these so you wont have to change anything after your wife drives it. Now if both you changes no settings or both prefers everything exactly the same way then there will be no point for 2nd profile/fob to be used. |
