Merino was removed from the 40i’s in August, it is still available in the 45e and M50i.

Im in a loaner from the dealership and it has the sensifin or some kind of leather alternative and it feels nice. It's not as soft as merino and has a plastic/vinyl smell that I don't care for. I'm sure I could get used to it, but wouldn't be able to forget that's it's not leather.

Well, the hotspot function isn't working. BMW hotspotdrive says my vehicle isn't compatible and so after waiting over a month for an appointment and a software update, they still don't know why. T-Mobile service is dismal at best in this area and may not even be worth the effort. I can say for certain that I prefer the X5 M50i over the X3 30i they provided as a loaner... everything else is fine.

One of the main advantages of the Sensafin vinyl seats over the Merino leather seats, is they can come in the stunning Silverstone color, which I absolutely love. |

The Sensafin is really nice. You would never know it's not leather. One note, you are excluded from massaging seats with the Sensafin. Those have to be leather.

Interesting. We were mislead by the dealer then.

Sensafin was initially going to be the choice for us. Then we went to a dealership and checked out a X5 that had been sitting in the sun all day. The plastic smell that came out of the car when we opened the door was overpowering. It looks/feels great, but we couldn’t get over the difference in smell compared to the Merino. YMMV when it comes to the 5 senses.

I order the Merino Leather with the Ventilated seats which are perforated which I wanted. The back seat is not perforated. I knew the back seats weren't ventilated, but I thought they would be perforated to look consistent. My 2016 X5 had Nappa and that's how it came. Seems off. Looks very different

Re sensafin vs leather smell, realize the interior surfaces even with ordering leather may still be over half sensafin. The dash for sure is.

I've had my X5 for 2 weeks and I have black Merino. It's very nice. That being said, a friend of mine bought at the same time and got Sensafin. It is really nice and the pattern on the seats is great! I would not hesitate for a second to get Sensafin!
