Would you replace your wireless charging tray?

Those of us who have problems with Apple Pay have posted in various thread like this one: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1553658

My SA said there is an SI out on this issue, but they could not resolve it by doing a simple software upgrade to 3/2019.48. Now they want to replace the wireless charging tray which is currently on order.

Am I inviting unwanted complications if I replace the wireless charging tray? Is it better to keep what I have to deal with the Apple Pay issue that may then never be resolved in my car?

I worry, in part, because I have the heated/cold cup-holders and wonder what all they tear up to get this job done.

Some on here have had theirs replaced with no reported downstream issues. Your vehicle should look as good as it did following a repair as it did when you brought it in to them. If they mess up the cup holders, ask them to replace them.

Just my $0.02...

Thanks

I must have missed those posts during one of my trips.

Edited to ask if the new wireless charging trays resolved all their issues like Apple Pay, etc.?

I have been in Germany and called to confirm that the wireless charging tray came in as expected while I was away. No, it has not arrived so it is coming from Germany.

Things have been so much better with the lost software update that I am still struggling with replacing this wireless charger.

It would help to hear if anyone faced complications when doing this and at the end resolved the original issues (e.g. like Apple Pay).

New wireless charging tray finally and now the Apple Pay issue is history.

It only took 8 months to fix this!

I took mine in today, and reported the continued issue. Is there an SI# for it? I want to make sure it's fixed. My loaner X5 has the wireless tray, but no apple pay issue and I'm surprised at how much nicer it is not to swipe up on the phone constantly when it's triggered.

Xeno - is there any improvement to the phone overheating with your replaced wireless charger?
My BMW dealer is suggesting there is still no global fix to this ongoing issue

I am not one of those who has complained about excessive overheating of my iPhone X in a Vaja case when placed in the wireless charging tray - original or replacement.

I think the previous discussion asked about hot/cold cup holders which I have and I suspect you do not.

Does anyone have any instructions on how to change the NFC only tray to the Wireless Charging Adapter (WCA) tray in the G05?
My X5 only came with the NFC tray, so I just bought the Wireless Charging Tray part online (part #84 109 437 712). My dealer said he would install it, but wants to charge me like $400 bucks for it. If its easy enough I'll do it myself!

The other question is does it need coding?

what did you end up doing? i am unable to remove the cup holder which seems to be the key to get to the tray.

I've ordered the part, its on its way from Germany.

I'm going to get the dealer to do it at the next service which is only next month away in October, I dont wanna stuff anything up.

Apparently after installation it needs to be coded into the car, because there are some iDrive7 menus that you can configure stuff on, so the computers need to know about it.

Just bumping this one to see if you were successful in having the dealer do this retrofit? I've spoken to a dealer here in QLD who have said that additional wiring is required, but looking at the connectors on the two parts it seems that they are the same. Thanks for any update!

I have the heated/cooled cupholders and they replaced my wireless charging tray without any apparent issues. Been working perfectly ever since, no apple pay issues and the phone is much cooler when charging.

I got a new G05 that came with the Wireless charging tray, so never got a chance to get the one I ordered installed.

I ended up selling the WCA tray I got from Germany on eBay !
