Right front fender damage

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So some idiot flung her car door wide open on a main road without looking in the rear view mirror and it flew into my passenger side front wheel fender panel. As you can see I was already past her door so it scrapped a part of the fender and also cracked open a part of it. I tried to look it up on realoem but I can't seem to find this specific part.

Anyone knows what it is and how to disassemble it so I can replace it myself? If I can buy this part then I can have a local body shop paint it for me and I can assemble it myself if it is possible. It looks like it is attached to the body of the car by clips/button fasteners but I don't want to undertake something that I do not know about and cause more damage. See attached pics.

Don't know how to disassemble so don't have anything I can contribute except saying sorry you have to deal with that.

The complete lack of awareness some people show on a busy road is crazy. They can literally die but they open the door and step out like they're the only ones there.

OK so I figured out that it is part number 51778099124 since I have an M Sport package car. Now the question is how to remove the part. Anyone knows if it is just a pop off and pop on piece or just a few screws to remove? I am quite handy so just need some guidance. Auricom maybe?

I had virtually the same damage (mine had more scratches). The estimates to repaint were reasonable $280 - $380. At that price I would just take it to the local body shop and let them handle it.

Yes I got an estimate for $250 but I need a new one as mine has cracked from the front side so it looks like a sole that has come apart from a shoe. I ordered the post at $166 shipped to me and then $250 to paint. The shop quoted me $300 to remove the damaged part and install the new one so I am contemplating if it is worth the effort to save the $50 or just let them handle it.

For $50., I would let them do it. That's as long as you trust their work.

So, why didn't you get the license plate and information from the culprit who did it? She should be paying for this shit not you.

Long story but wife was on the way out and she was in a shock and she said let me go get my husband (this happened 2 houses down the street) and by then the lady was gone. Ironically she took a photo of my license plate lol. I am hoping that she does try to file a claim and I can turn it back on her.

Yeah I trust their work 100% and I may just let them do it.

Is it 166 for the part, 250 to paint and 300 to remove and install? if that's correct I would save the 300 and do that labor myself. I've had one off, you just need a decent plastic trim tool

Haha no. $166 for the part and $300 to paint and install so total of $466. If it was $300 for the install then i would do it myself any day since it is a 15 minute job which is why I am even thinking of saving the $50 even and doing the install myself.

If you let them do the install, they can better match the paint.

I don't get how people can be so careless. Sorry you have to go through that. I've witnessed once before too and it's so frustrating.

Is she paying for your fees?!

My wife told her that she will be back with me to the accident site and by then the lady had gone. Yes, I know my wife should have at least taken a photo of the license plate or some information but since this happened just 2 houses down from my house she thought that she can get me real quick and trusted the lady to not run away. Rookie mistake of trusting people these days.
