Same reason they can't get more engine manufacturers to join F1 - they don't think the additional sales/profit justifies the cost. Estimates I saw said Honda spends about $450 million per year on F1, how many additional car sales does this bring them and how many additional cars do they need to sell to spend $450 million? I think the amount of people that are influenced to buying a Honda because of F1 is very small as most people are buying basic cars and SUV's. If I was interested in a Honda and Toyota, the Honda F1 engine program wouldn't matter to me.

I think the technology transfer from F1 powerplants going to consumer cars is tiny and I don't see the manufacturers not in F1 having a hard time keeping up with engine design, especially as F1 powerplants are likely not where the consumer market is headed.

What you have already spent isn't justification in itself to keep doing it.

As I said previously on repeat : MAX's teammates ran with equal PU performance numbers .
But they are "not able" to drive it with the same lower downforce setup to gain a higher topspeed .
The lower RB16 downforce setup was really required in QF and race to split the Mercs dominance over the whole season !
It's doing more with less mate ! That's why the RB16 got balance issues and was tail happy over the whole season.
That's what you get when you have to drive a car with lack of power .
A compensation is really required to keep it up with the fastest car of the decade ..."The Merc W11" !


I can tell you mate : It won't be easy for "Checo" Perez , he is used to run in the "Pink Panther Merc" with higher downforce/grip and stronger PU .

Hoping with Checo for a "real" RB strategy to fight the Mercs in the front .
Personal I'm thinking the extra 40HP from the '21 HONDA and the stronger Ferrari PU won't be enough to fight with the Merc's stronger MGU-K ...
As we know , the Merc's Party-Mode and Magic-Mode are MGU-K software related .

During the practice sessions I agree . Albon had to test new aero parts and setups during the practice sessons .
MAX had to do it as well , but he didn't liked it . Same for Albon .
In general drivers don't like it , because they lose the feeling with the car . To be one with car .
By this they lose confidence with the car...

^ Certainly testing new parts can be a hit or miss affair,RB had to try harder to gain on the W cars which they have now achieved, thanks to Christian's management while the W cars just cruised around comfortably with their pre-time development advantage.
Ferrari as usual had the wrong basic set up as well as Renault as for the rest including McLaren it was just dependent on driver bravery,McL hasn't even got a proper wind tunnel so good luck there Ricciardo
