New SUV Addict?? 2020 X5M to 2020 M50i to 2021 GLE 63S
My saga continues...In mid March I purchased an HEA 2020 X5M (Black/Sakhir) and was initially blown away by the vehicle, absolutely loved it. However, after about one month, I found the ride on the streets to be a bit too firm for me so decided to trade it in for a 2020 M50i (Carbon Black/Black). Well, I loved that vehicle as well but I was still craving to be back in a full M vehicle or something near equivalent.
After having the M50i for six months, I just traded it in and purchased a 2021 MB GLE 63S (Black/Black w/Grey highlights). Drove it straight from the dealer to my detailer to get full PPF/ceramic (yes I did that same treatment to the others, yikes!) which was a 50 mile drive. My initial impression is that I may have found the perfect balance for me with the GLE 63S. However, time will tell.....I don't have a good track record, LOL. IMO, all three vehicles are totally awesome in so many ways. It all comes down to personal preference on the ride, power, looks, etc... I'm not expecting any kudos here obviously since I traded brands but I thought some might be interested in an update since I was the first 2020 X5M owner on this forum (to my knowledge). |

Interesting journey. Must have been tough with the lack of inventory to do it during this crazy year. Im trying to persuade myself i need x5m. And switch from m50. But everytime i test drive x5m I’m frankly not blown away by the power compared to 523 hp+ in M50. M corners better but thats about it in performance for me What is your experience in m50 vs x5 m? Looks like you went for air suspension ride in Mb with huge low end torque... is it closer to m50 in feeling/ride quality? |

I find the ride of the X5M firm as well but as long as the roads are smooth, its not bad. But when the roads are rough the ride is too firm for me also. Maybe the MSS springs would’ve helped. |

I totally get the firm ride thing but after driving it around now for 1k miles its really not that bad at all - and has definitely improved with the winter 808Ms and Michelin Alpin 5s - really enjoying the ride and the wife (who thinks my GT4 rides too harsh!!) commented last night how nice the ride is! It's a keeper for me as its passed my ride test and the benefits on handling turn in and general ability as well as the endless power are just perfect for what its being used for. |

Love it and frankly - who cares! If 2020 has given guidance on anything, its that we should do what we want, when we want, as you never know how long you have on this little rock. Enjoy that 63S - it has some engine and soundtrack!

Congrats on the new car OP. Can't beat an AMG V8. Variety is the spice of life, sometimes its good to switch things up. Be sure to post photos of the new ride when you get it back, those new GLE's are beautiful SUV's.

GlennC, I’m happy that you (hopefully) have settled on the best car for you. I know the firm ride of your F95 was just too firm based on our previous correspondence.
Funny enough, during the very long wait for my F95 (finally delivered in July), I thought very hard about going with the MB GLE 63s, but those weren’t available at that point either! But I was certainly impressed with the press on the MB and I do like the looks as well. I’m sure it is a fantastic ride - hard to throw stones at ANY of these elite performance SAVs (including the RSQ8). Best of luck and be safe out there - glad you got what suits you. |

Congrats. Nothing wrong with getting what you want, BMW or not. The only thing I don't like about the GLE63s are the wheels available stock. Nothing really speaks to me. Maybe they look better in person. I personally think MB has the nicest interiors right now and the AMG V8 sounds incredible. Congrats again.

Curious as to what tires your X5M had. I see you're on Long Island (me 2!) What roads did you drive on that you find the ride bad compared to the m50. I've driven on the all the major roads, northern state, LIE, meadowbrook southern state, Jericho turnpike etc and other then the potholes and poorly fixed ones and roads find the ride quite good.

To answer your question, yes you're an addict.
My wife and I test drove the GLE AMG prior to getting the X5M and we weren't fans of it and wasn't a good fit for us. So, my question to you is, what's next?! Come on, you know you're only going to keep the GLE for a couple of months lol! RSQ8? |
