Beautiful ride you got there, and nice and stealthy in black. I recently had a GLE350 as a loaner and loved the interior, especially at night with the ambient lighting, and with all the AMG touches it looks just amazing. Enjoy it!

Looks beautiful Glenn. Very interested in what you think about it in a few months.

Well, I loved that vehicle as well but I was still craving to be back in a full M vehicle or something near equivalent.

After having the M50i for six months, I just traded it in and purchased a 2021 MB GLE 63S (Black/Black w/Grey highlights). Drove it straight from the dealer to my detailer to get full PPF/ceramic (yes I did that same treatment to the others, yikes!) which was a 50 mile drive.

My initial impression is that I may have found the perfect balance for me with the GLE 63S. However, time will tell.....I don't have a good track record, LOL.

IMO, all three vehicles are totally awesome in so many ways. It all comes down to personal preference on the ride, power, looks, etc...

I'm not expecting any kudos here obviously since I traded brands but I thought some might be interested in an update since I was the first 2020 X5M owner on this forum (to my knowledge).
So what dealer lot are your low mileage BMWs sitting on? You may have taken a bath, but some enthusiast on here could benefit from it.

The X5M was re-sold by the dealer quickly. The M50i may still be at MB of White Plains.

In the 5th photo from the top of the dash, what is that large blank piece of plastic to the right of the screen which says AMG?? It's just about on the passenger side. Is it some kind of vent? Just doesn't look right.
Also the front seats look kind of non supportive for a full AMG vehicle.
But anyway, good luck with the car.

Its a fake vent, driver side has a real one, they probably included it for symmetry.

Thanks. I normally always like symmetry in anything, but in this case, to me, it just looks odd. Whenever I see the new dash (in person or in photos), I always notice this oddity.
Oh well, it is what it is.

Thanks for the well wishes. As Stein325 points out, it's a fake vent placed there for symmetry to align with the vent on the driver's left side.

As far as the seats are concerned, I personally find them more supportive than those on the X5M but I've only driven 100 miles so far so probably too early for me to judge. I find seats can be very supportive for some but not for others based on body type and size. I seem to fit better in the AMG seat.

All in all, so far so good but given my track record my opinions may change after a couple thousand miles.

I traded my 2019 X5 50i M-sport in on a fully loaded 2020 X7 M50i and couldn't be happier as compromising and not being totally satisfied sucks. Looking forward to the 63 AMG report. As much as I love BMW, if they stick that new 4 series grille on the big vehicles, I will be shopping elsewhere for my next one.
Hoping they don't mess up the front of the G05 or the G07 when they do LCI otherwise we'll also be looking elsewhere. Keeping my fingers crossed over here that the BMW designers don't completely lose their minds (maybe they already have).....

Nice Merc, and there are certainly tradeoffs between all of these vehicles.

Personally, I found that tires made a HUGE difference in the ride on my X5M...went from stock Pirelli run flats to Conti DWS. And while I lost a little bit of high speed handling (still sufficient for street driving), it helped tremendously with ride comfort.

I will be turning in my lease soon and have ordered an M50i. Tech is a big upgrade from the F85, and I thought the M50i seemed spirited enough. It is great to have so many choices of performance SUVs out there.

I had a GLS 63AMG and grew tired of $2600 brake jobs every 9k miles. I told my SA that I need brakes more than I need oil changes. He stated to me when the AMGs need their first brake job is usually when they start showing up on the lot for resell.

Curious, have you priced out a brake job for the GLE 63?

Nope...I'm laughing out loud a bit because as I think about your question, I've actually never had a break job done on a vehicle because I don't hold onto them long enough. Having said that, maybe this is the one I will want to hold onto for years and I appreciate your input.

Curious for an update on your GLE 63. Also what size wheels do you have? All Season tires?

Ha! Same boat. Thinking back I may have replaced one set of tires and zero brakes in the past 10 years. First world problems....

I have had it almost two months and put 2,000 miles on it. My wheels are 275/45 and 315/40 with all season tires.

OMG, this thing is PERFECT for me! I absolutely love it. For me, it's an awesome combination of power, luxury, sportiness with a comfortable ride. I've also fallen in love with the looks of it. I find the seats to be very comfortable. I don't mind that the gear shift is a steering wheel stalk as I actually find it convenient and was already used to it having had S series cars before.

I love the adjustable digital dash and the little wheel on the steering wheel where I can adjust to sport, sport +, race mode etc simply by turning it.

I can take 15mph suggested turns at over 60mph and feel like I'm in a sports car (maybe not as sporty as the X5M though because there is less road feel with the GLE 63S).

In summary, this solved my issue of wanting tremendous power with a ride that wasn't uncomfortable when on bumpy roads.

As I've said before I think the X5M, M50i and GLE 63S are all awesome in their own ways...After much trial, I have which of those three seems perfect for me. I've had zero thoughts such as "oh no, I don't like this aspect or that and need to trade this thing in already" LOL. BTW, I'm still on this forum every day (usually a couple times). The MB forum has basically no activity. Bimmerpost is awesome...

That sounds awesome.
Yes I am also on MB forum, we have SL as well. But those forums are weak!

Are your tires on 21s?
Did you consider GLE 53 as well?
Do you mind if I ask what % off you got MSRP?
We were considering a European delivery right before Covid hit.

My daily drive is an F95. I personally dont think the suspension is too firm but I can certainly appreciate why someone would think that. My wifes vehicle is a GLE 450. We ordered it and got one of the first in our state. The 63S wasnt available yet nor could you order it. I currently have a GLE 63S on order for her and we are thinking of trading in her 450 for the 63S. I have test drove the 63S and the suspension is softer without question.

My personal opinion is that the GLE is the best SUV on the market. The size, comfort, luxury and technology bests every other SUV on the market today including BMW.

For me I prefer the X5M for my daily but if I had to pick just one for our family I would pick the GLE. MB really did a masterful job with the new GLE and the AMG is no exception.

Yes, the wheels are 21. I shopped around a bit and got 6.4% below MSRP for a car on the lot. I didn't consider the 53. I "needed" over 600hp, LOL.

Why do you think Gle is better suv vs bmw
In my book the only benefits are bigger rear seat and availability of trailer hitch on 63s. Where x5 m does not have it

As for ride quality i notice mb is on 21 inch with much higher profile tires. I wonder if you compare the two with equal tire set up

Power wise i think bmw still wins. X5m has been besting everything in comparo races
