I don't really understand it, because it says 19" and also 21"?

I see the tire sizes for the 21" tires match up on tirerack and are available.

Any drawbacks to running this? Thinking of purchasing a X5 with the 21's, but need to sort out this tire situation before ordering.
Rear tire you have selected is incorrect. Should be 315 35 R21

which slightly modified tire size would work for the rears:

1) 3105/35/21

or

2) 315/40/21

I ask because both of these sizes have full WINTER tires available while the factory 315/35/21 rears are only presently available in an ALL SEASON tire.

Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Check out this site for comparisons. You need the diameter to be as close as possible to OEM, and the tire must also be compatible with the rim width.

As to how much of a difference in diameter is tolerable, I cannot answer that. My CA at my dealer told me for xDrive that it was more important to match diameter on each axle (L&R) vs. front and back. However, I am not sure that is true, but it does make some sense.

I've been happy with my TireRack winter package--MSW Type 48 wheels; Michelin Alpin 5 275/45 R20 on all 4. Total cost last December (with sensors) was approx. $2400. I had no problems driving in the mountains of West VA during several snow storms, and as advertised, the dry performance was not noticeably different from my 21" Pirelli staggered summer setup. The main issue is the road rash from treated roads where sand/gravel spits up from the sipes, hitting the lower door section, causing significant paint damage. I will try aftermarket mud guards (on order) and will install paint protection film as a backup to prevent more damage this winter. Hope this helps.

I was considering this package. Looks like the wheels are back ordered until February. Might try type 49s if I can get those sooner. Can you swap the msw center caps with BMW caps?
