G05 Black grill

For those who are interested in figuring out how to turn that big chrome kidney grill black. Not for those who want to throw cold water on the idea.

I can guarantee IND will make an OEM painted one in the usual high gloss or matte black depending on what you want.

Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping to get from this thread, first sighting of this. What’s different about this, which you may well know, is previous X5s had two separate kidney grills each with two pieces, the surround and the slats. The new X5 grill is a one piece chrome/metallic surround and slats which fits over the two separate black vent devices. I want the slats blackened. I may just just use vinyl wrap or plastidip if there’s no better option. I really do NOT like the look of the stock grill with Msport.

It really will. Some colors will look great with the whole thing black, but I think dark colors will look better keeping the surround chrome...I’ve seen it that way and it’s night and day better.

We will be offering the painted gloss black front grilles soon. Just waiting on the parts from Germany.

When you say painted gloss front grill that sounds like the whole thing will be painted... is that what you mean?

Since the G05 has chrome slats then we would paint those as well as the surrounds.

We have a G05 coming in next week for other cosmetics so we will take a look at the front grilles.

What I want is only the slats painted black but leaving the surround in chrome. Do you think you will make this?

Yes that is possible by request.

We can even paint the center to give them a more traditional kidney grill look.

Photo of the 1 piece M2 competition front grilles we did.

Sign me up. Love the painted center. My G05 is in Carbon Black. Do you have a photo of that color, interested to see if there is enough contrast. I suspect yes.

Slats will be black (including louvers that control venting?) .

+1 on loving the painted center. Need to tame these oversized grills. A little move away from the "uni-grill" would be nice.

I think I”m going to plastidip mine and see how that goes, never have used it before but it looks promising. I tried a sample using vinyl wrap this morning and it didn’t look good. And I agree on the unigrill, I think I will plastidip that center piece, too...

I just used 3M gloss black vinyl wrap for that center strip. But it works for mine only because my X5 is sapphire black, pretty much a perfect match. I thought i was going to use that for the slats, too, but that’s going to be tricky to do. I tried it on one slat but wasn’t satisfied with the result...Still debating whether to try that again or plastidip...
