JB4 Map Guide:

Map0: Stock tuning, fully disable JB4
Map1: 3psi over stock added (91 octane)
Map2: 4psi over stock added (91-93 octane)
Map3: 6psi over stock added (93+ octane)
Map4: Absolute target map with peak target of 20psi (93+ and/or 30% E85, EWG connector suggested)

This thread is tempting me to start tinkering again lol. I had a JB4 on my F10 535i and it worked well.

Nah. You're still down on power a good bit vs the m50 (about 100hp or so). However, it does make it a good bit more fun to drive. If you want to make n63 power from the b58, it's easy and pretty cheap...pure turbo upgrade or nitrous and you're there. And the b58 is a stout motor at those power levels.

No. I’m not trying to make it into a race car, just curious about the level of performance I would get. I was also curious about the power to weight ratio (knowing the M50i is quite a bit heavier).

Either way, I think I’ll give a serious look to the JB4. Unfortunately, There really isn’t much else I can do to get more performance out of the 40i version of the X5...

One thing that makes the V8s so attractive ist he torque and power delivery. While you can definitely get tlose to peak HP & TQ levels, it will not feel the same or as fast.

Huge generalization and widely subjective statements there. If you are comparing the n63 and a modded b58, i disagree. I could agree when comparing other motors, however.

I am talking about a N58 with JB4 vs a stock N63. Obviously you can mod any engine to feel like a V8 with enough $ into it.

It is profoundly easier on numerous levels to just buy the V8. No need to play Fast and Furious ricer with an X5.

Totally agree with your first statement. If you want the v8, get the v8. Low cost option.

Your second statement, well, that's not super cool. I enjoy modding cars. Doesn't matter the size of the motor. I enjoy the process. It's a hobby for me. And I don't consider myself anything other than enthusiast...

From what I understand, the B58 went back to forged internals, unlike the N55.

I think the JB4 can definitely add to my enjoyment. I just wish there were other, simple mods to increase performance...

Did you ever get a chance to install the JB4 and compare stock vs modified figures?

It looks like it may be a while until the new Bosch ECUs will be unlocked, so now I'm trying to figure out between the JB1, JB4 and Racechip.

I understand JB1 and Racechip have less capablities than the JB4, but I'm not looking to add any other mods except for 93 octane.

I just did a few runs with the stock 50i. With a significant incline and traction problems (snowed a little this morning, so the ground is still a little wet), I was able to get a a 4.5s 0-60. I am on all-season tires as well.

On a dry day and without an incline, this is a solid sub 4 second car all day long As is, it will be very close to my Stage 2 F10 550i based on the 1/8 mile I ran for both.

I will be doing a few more runs when conditions are better, but wanted to get somewhat of an idea of what I can expect. Once I get better runs in, I'll compare it to a piggybacked M50i.

Awesome man. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing your clean results. I'm sure you'll pick up some good tenths. Really looking forward to seeing what the m50i will do with piggy or flash. I'm sure it's a beast.

My latest

Quarter mile run had to let off. On another run with bad launch trapped 108. Assuming that's the best it'll do at the end of the quarter mile.

Nice, thanks for sharing. I was able to get a more decent run in this morning. No doubt with temps in 40s and 50s and warmer ground, there's a better launch in play for low 4s, high 3s stock.

For comparison, here's what my 2013 Stage 2 550i did. I don't have any doubts that the M50i can go mid 11s with a proper tune. Pretty astonishing for such a big car.
