Anyone notice any performance degradation since putting these in? Feeling like I'm getting a bit of a burning smell and a little more sluggish then usual?

You should not have a burning smell or loss of power with any air filter. Perhaps installation error and now this is the side effect?

Installation looks good... Checked all around sealed nicely, opened it open took out put back all looks good... Should be more clear, smell is not present majority of time only if pushing hard and very slight, might be tires or brakes. Could be my imagination, but feels slightly off... No check engine or any light etc... Was wondering if some of the oil is getting in from the filter or allowing a little more particulate in.... Will continue to monitor

Before installation I typically uses a blower to reduce the amount of oil these filters are saturated with (K&N, Dinan, AFE etc). This way it avoids damaging MAF or greasing up the ducts which then leads to dirt and debris accumulating along them. Either way even if you did not there should not be an oil burning smell or loss of power.

What kind of blower? What exactly is your procedure for reducing the old the filters have

Blow out the excess oil. I typically do it on a broken down cardboard box so I can see how much oil comes off of them. The Dinan ones have been the most saturated out of all the filters I have ever purchased.

Might want to give these guys a try. I ordered the BMC M50i air intake filters and received them a couple days ago.

Received my BMC filters today. Already installed.

Great price and quick delivery! Thanks Ben at RG Sports!

Looks like I will have to wait 3 weeks before I get the X5M air ducts to swap out the M50's with silencers. Shipping from Germany.

As I mentioned before you don't have to wait three weeks if you want to purchase my friend's ducts.
I totally appreciate the offer. I want to have the OME's on hand in case I don't like the difference.

Plus the dealership called. They have 2 M5's that have been acting like a beacon for the local airport. I only have 4700 miles on the M50, they want to make a deal.

We shall see....neither are a Comp and I told myself after my X3M, it will need to be a comp.

Purchased air ducts from Iconolast (thanks again) installed BMC filters and am liking the improved induction sounds👍 question what are the flaps for at the back of the air boxes? Original filters also had some piece of material attached to them that went on top of where the flaps are.

Did my filters and ducts. Not a big difference. Easy mod.

One could probably just block off the tower on the stock duct and save money.

At least it does look cooler without the silencers on it.

I do not know what the flaps are for but if you remove them you get more of a bass sound at WOT however you are sucking in so much hot air from the back of the motor and firewall essentially losing power. The material attached to the stock filter is usually for snow/sleet. It diffuses the snow flakes from entering the motor.

One could but why would one want to if there is an OEM option that looks better and isn't a ghetto DIY "mod"?

Ok so as far as the flaps inside the air boxes just leave alone don't plug or try to remove remove and as far as what actual purpose they provide we aren't sure?
