X5 M grille on X5 40i
Hi all, I wanted to install the X5 M grille on my 40i, to be clear the one with the X5M logo. Before buying it, I would like to know if I can simply remove the flaps that I already have behind my grille that open and close. If I remove them, do I get any errors on the dashboard?
Have any of you already done it, if so how? Thanks for the replies. I mean, I'd like to buy this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254670466504 |

This YouTube video shows you how to get the grill off. Not sure about the flaps.

as far as flaps goes, this is more complicated subject, you will get an error if you disconnect them, I wouldn't recommend cutting them out as well, some ppl found the way to trick the car thinking the flaps are there but actually removing them. I might have more info in a month or two if I'll decide to tackle it myself.

The issue is that the G05 flaps has a stop limiter force in the motor itself, meaning that if you remove the flaps from the motor it will spin around freely and not able to stop on the close/open position it should. And of course disconnecting the cable will trigger the cel also. Unlike the 3 series that dont have that limiter, not sure why.

The info above is actually incorrect.
If you purchase the actual factory part of the X5M grille it WILL NOT fit with the automatic flaps that open and close. The flaps hit the grille and the grille does not clip all the way in. If you purchase a REPLICA of the X5M grille off eBay or another site, the replicas seem to be made with a thinner depth of the grille that allows it to fit in front of the flaps that open close. I know because I tried both via trial and error. I removed the X5M badging on mine, but the fitment of the grille itself is as mentioned above. The OEM X5M grille does not fit, it hits the flaps. |

And since no one said it, DON'T put the X5M badge on your 40i.

I apologize for misleading related to X5M grill, I never bought OEM X5M grill, I ordered one from RG Sports made by Autotechnic I assumed it was exactly the same grill as X5M minus the badge but looks like it was somewhat modified to work with X5 with no issues.
