Brand new 2024 - X5 50e - Changed steering effort error
Greetings, BMW enthusiasts! I've encountered a curious issue since welcoming my new BMW X5 xDrive50e on January 2nd and cruising through 444 memorable miles. En route through Lake Tahoe's majestic mountains, the check engine light illuminated, paired with a message advising, 'Changed steering effort - Drive moderately.' Fortunately, I made it back safely, and the steering feel remained largely unchanged.
Has anyone else experienced this? My X5 is currently with the dealer, facing a replacement of the electric steering rack - a hefty $8000 venture (covered under warranty, of course). I'm eager to hear if this is a common hurdle among our BMW community. Fingers crossed, this isn't a sign of more adventures down the road! |

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I think it is the first one we have seen on the 50e. Once they replace it all should be good to go.

Unfortunately I got the exact same message and experience as you. Same X5 50e 2024. But I’m on ~ 6000 miles. The steering felt no change to me but the dealer said they need to replace steering rack.
