Terrible exhaust
I just ordered the akra slip on and link from Ben at RG for my2021 BMW X5M because the stock sound is awful. It sounds so soft even in sport with the exhaust button on. I mean it sounds like a Toyota Camry. Does anyone feel the same way? My wife has the 2021 x3m and hers is sooo much louder and aggressive! I will make a comparison video and post it in here ASAP.

I respectfully disagree... I get told constantly how loud it is. My neighbor came out the other day and said "Well, you're never going to be able to sneak home!". I started it remotely when leaving Church a few weekends ago and someone walking near it yelled "Jesus Christ!!!"

the cold start is fine, but then of course the exhaust settles down after 20 seconds or so, and after that sounds nothing like what the full-fat "M" top of the range X5 should - especially as it has a V8
as on other threads there is the V8 in the 50i for people wanting a more subtle exhaust note, so i do think the "M" stock exhaust should be better sounding ... so i've pushed the button on a new slip-on Akra neighbours, and wife, you have been warned! (please no comments on price ... i'm a Brit, so we get ripped off for pretty much everything!)

That said - we are comparing two slightly different exhausts here - as the OPF is "on" in the UK and "off" in the USA... For me with the OPF - Love the cold start but then it is a lot quieter than the M product cars used to be - it still has a lovely bassy grumble however in the cabin (and of course it has piped sound) but think it gives a good blend between classy and understated whilst showing that its no normal engine under the hood. Seeing it go past in the street with my wife driving sensibly it gives just enough of a hint that its a bit special without shouting. Overall I'm happy... |

In the US anyway, doesn't the Comp have a more aggressive exhaust? I wonder if OP has a M with the "standard" exhaust or Comp with the upgraded M Performance exhaust that's louder than the stock one. I have a '21 X5M Comp and it's LOUD. My wife says she knows when I come home bc even in the back of the house she can hear the rumble.

How about an OPF deleter?
Does this fix the issue? https://www.leib-engineering.de/de/l...er-bmw-x5m-f95 |

Yes, i agree ... i used to live in Manly, Sydney, working on secondment for Westpac Bank, and was amazed at the margins that Oz banks could achieve, and how it was almost "un-Australian" to question how much Aussie banks charged for basic banking products, compared to other countries ... on the other hand i remember seeing the USD price of an X5MC and being genuinely shocked at the price difference (admittedly tax is a major factor). anyway, we live where we live i suppose! Yes, the OPF apparently can't be "removed" so it isn't an option to do a 2nd cat delete or similar (i'm an engineering dunce!) - personally i would like more noise, but a louder rumble / nicer tone rather than "boy racer" sounding pops and crackles. I've been encouraged by Alan & others comments that the Akra slip-on ONLY is a nice compromise, whereas from some comments the link pipe added in would be too much sound for my taste - this video is a good example of "too much" for me: i'm just hoping that the slip-on kit is 6k well-spent getting a nicer sound out of this amazing engine!

The question is, how big is the difference between the US and EU exhaust?
Is there any technical information, like Decible in 1 meter? Or a video comparing with and without OPF |

The banking side of it is pretty much a thing of the past but the car side is definitely not - I'd hazard BMW / Porsche et al have one of their highest margin countries in Australia. One of my favourite places in OZ is Classic Throttle Shop - they are awesome but the conversion prices do make me wince! https://classicthrottleshop.com/ Got it on OPF delete - I think its a non-starter for a few reasons - much better to go the slip-on route as you have done! |

It is loud but it does not sound that great... AMG sounds better. X3 M40i sounds better... but I think the X3M sounds meh. when I say sounds better I mean the pops and crackles, I love that. I wish BMW would add that to the SUV M models.

Need a third option for poll. To me stock sounds just "ok". I did a secondary CAT delete and it's better but still a bit muted. I probably will move forward with an exhaust soon.

thanks, glad i've not bodged my understanding of this, having just committed to a 50% deposit! i'll post up videos once installed, as i don't think i've seen an OPF'd Euro car with just the Akra slip-on

US versions sound good - EU version is very bad in first moment an ECU tune comes I will make downpipe remove OPF and enjoy the car.
I would not care for warranty...4.4L V8 Petrol with sound of a vacuum cleaner is a big joke. Let me know anyone if there is a chance to do something in EU version so far because as I know nobody flashed ECU yet. |

So I've been toying with measuring the sound for stock comp sports exhaust on F95 comp. I haven't been able to get over 85db with flaps open and revving too. FI Exhaust claims 110, i'll report next week when I get mine installed.

I have a 2021 X5M Competition with the supposed Sport exhaust/no OPF. My response to the poll was awful, HOWEVER, my main opinion of it varies depending on the mode and situation I am in. I would grade it strictly from the performance side of things and have to side with the AWFUL more than great. Full Akropovic system inbound, HOWEVER, massive delays may cause me to cancel that order. No, I will not spend upwards of 5K for a SS exhaust such as Fi Systems. From my standpoint, if I am spending the $$$$, I at least want it to be made of an "exotic" material and not Chinese (Tiawanese) SS.
