tires

I'm at 2500 miles on my car, and I measured all 4 tires at 6/32. The stock PS4s have already shown visible wear, and i'm starting to think about what to replace them with.

I originally wanted AS tires, but none can be found, and of course I can go replace them with another set of PS4s, but want something with longevity. At this rate, my tires will be done at around 5k miles.

Any thoughts? I'm on the stock 21/22 setup.

For those that has already replaced their F95/96 tires, what did you go with?

I just replaced my rears at $670 each. I am curious to see if there is something that will last atleast 10k miles as well.

How were your fronts looking when you replaced the rear tires?

Mine are wearing pretty evenly f/r.

The biggest disappointment I faced was finding out there are no A/S tire options for the F95/96 unless you have the 21" standard wheels. It looks like im going to swap between the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and Pirelli Scorpion Winter which I'll have on from December to April.

Unfortunately you are probably going to have to keep on with the PS4S. My X5M came from the factory with the Pirellis which wear much faster. The PS4S do have the mileage warranty. 30K for front and 15K for the rear tires since they are staggered. With the Pirellis, the rears were worn out in about 4K miles. I do enjoy the acceleration so they do wear faster in the rear.

My wife accelerates like a normal person so that helps a bit but they still do not last long. I also live in south Florida so the summer heat does not help either. They make the Pilot Sport A/S but not in the 315/30/22 size. I feel your pain. I have to hold myself back to make the tires last a bit longer. The car is definitely rear drive unless you slip but with the weight it has great traction. My rears wear much quicker. I usually do 2 sets of rears to 1 set of fronts.

The roads are mostly straight here so the fronts tend to last even longer. I seek out any turns I can but there are not many here. Pros and cons of living in South Florida.

I called Michelin. Good news and bad news.

Bad news is their mileage warranty on OEM tires ended in 2018. So they will not honor mileage warranty for cars that came equipped from factory. Mileage warranty only kicks in when you buy the tires from retail.

Good news is that they will provide a pro-rated discount on the tires when they reach 4/32 (which is when they consider the tire needs replacing) My car at 2500 miles measures 6/32, so i'm close.

Hell, if I can get a few hundred bucks off $2500 for a set of tires, then i'm happy!

On my x6mc replaced mine at around 10k. Went with the stock Michelin w/BMW star.

On my m8c with stock Pirellis, replaced with Michelin p4s w/BMW star, did that at 5k.

I must say 6/32 at 2500 miles is impressive. You driving hard in the mountains?

A few times yes. Since you are in the Bay Area, i'm sure you are familiar with highway 9 and skyline. I've done a few runs up there--the car is really impressive, and I was pacing what looked like a built miata whom eventually pulled over to let me by.

But the car also does daily drop school drop offs and grocery runs. The furthest i've driven is to Sausalito (which is 60 miles away all highway)

I never do full acceleration runs or have even tried launch control.

When you replaced the tires on the X6M, did you do all 4 at 10K or just the rears?

Here are my rears at 6/32 and 2500 miles. The wear is nice an even, which is great - and of course I see a nail!

Love skyline!

I did all 4 at peterpan, since they were the only ones that could get the tires in a timely fashion. Bout $2900 out the door with alignment.

Which a/s are available for the standard all around 21". They are still staggered just rears are 21".
Having trouble finding replacements for the stock pirellis. Michelin has the ps4's but as you know not a/s. They are also back ordered everywhere

You can get Pirelli Scorpion Verde (which is not a good tire btw)

In order to see what tires are available for those sizes in tirerack, dont search by car, but rather by individual tire sizes and you'll see all that is availble. It's a game to find matching pairs, and very few will match up. There is a crap ton more tires available in 295/35/21 than 315/35/21.

I'm debating on grabbing a set of 21" wheels with correct offsets and just run 295/35/21 on all 4 corners. That will give me the best availability of tires and only slight loss (i hope) in cornering performance.

So the fronts wore at the same pace as rears? That's' what i'm seeing but it seems like others have seen way more rear biased wear which is what I saw on other Xdrive cars. I bit the bullet and just ordered tires from tirerack since it looks like availability is hit or miss--and they are available now. When my OEM tires do get down to 4/32, i'll hit up Michelin again to see about pro-rated pricing on a new set.

I guess with all the issues of availability and the rate that these cars wear out tires, it will be wise to keep a few sets on deck.

Front wasn't as bad as rears but it was close. Didn't want to deal with swapping out at different times and trying to keep track - plus availability has been a concern.

My front and and rear lasted a little over the first 10k of miles on the x5m. This time the rear was done at 10k and I probably have another 5k left one the front. Michelin sent me a prorated reimbursement both times even on the original set.

Yeah, I saw that when I was measuring the tires! /as noted above

So to summarize;

Michelin PS4S on X5M will net you about 10-15k miles front and 10k rear. While this is all dependent on driving style, climate, weather, etc.. Mine seems to be wearing at a much faster rate; but not conclusive until I get to 3/32s.

Michelin does have a tread warranty of 15K for our staggered setup, and they will pro-rate some of the cost of replacement tires. I think this is fair and I will continue to buy these tires -- Until they release a 315/30/22 PS4 AS!

You are right there are only the Pirelli Scorpion Verde. I got mixed up with the winter tire set up I've been looking at too many tires lately.

If it is doable for you the best is to have a summer set and winter set of tires and swap twice a year. I know it is a hassle but you will really maximize the performance and feel of your car with summers when the weather is appropriate. I used to avoid it by putting all seasons on my car right after getting a new car but as I have now been forced to drive with summer tires I truly feel a huge difference especially in such a performance oriented car.

The whole tire situation has been one of the few bad things with these cars. I don't know why they went 21 front and 22 rear and made it impossible to get tires.....not to mention the monster truck wheel gap makes them look small anyways. There also should not be next to no options for all season or winter on an SUV...it's a failure on BMW's part.

I also don't know why they have 35 series in the front and 30 on the rear.....it's an SUV, you need more meat than that. 40 and 35 would have been fine....but it's a little ridiculous these tires have less sidewall than my M5.

I'm not spending $2500 every 8k miles on tires. I just buy lightly used ones off Ebay for much less. I've done this with all my cars.

The truth is if you're spending $110-130,000 on an SUV then a couple of thousand bucks shouldn't really break the bank especially for something as important as tires. All seasons will never perform as well as summers and will never be as reliable as winters during the winter. Speaking from experience here having put all seasons on my 2018 F15 and my 2019 F90. You truly lose out on how the potential of the car's performance which is what these cars are all about.

Also if you're changing your tires every 8,000 miles there must be something wrong with your driving as my tires last me a minimum of 30,000 miles and I definitely hit the pedal.

The x5m weighs 5200+ lbs and has over 600hp. All available rear tires have tread rating in the 300 range. As you can read from all the experienced folks who have had to change tires, 10k miles is usually the limit for a set of tires and much less if you like to drive twisties.

If you were unlucky enough to get pzeros, your tires would be done well before 10k miles.

30k miles for a set of tires for the x5m, no possible way.

My car is currently at 22k miles with Pilot Sport 4S with plenty of tread still left. Maybe I have magical tires
