2022 Alpina CB7  [3.50]
The World Needs The XB5

Imagine the speed and power of the X5M with the comfort and refinement of an Alpina.

Where’s the downside? Here’s hoping more Alpina models make it to the US as BMW finalizes their Alpina takeover in 2025.

Below renders were done very quickly in Photoshop borrowing elements from the XB7 and non-Msport 40i X5.

I like everything except the goofy grin on the front.

Agreed. It may look more cohesive with the MSport front end.

Already exists. It’s called a tuned M50i.

Lol, yeah.

I don't see a point to the Alpina X5 personally. Buy the X5M, or the XB7. A smaller Alpina that's fast but soft and hideously expensive makes no sense to me.

I can tell you’ve never driven an Alpina by your comments. My XB7 is the furthest thing from “soft” in Sport+ mode. It pulls .92g on the skidpad for crying out loud. You would end up with truly the best of both worlds in regards to sporting ability and outright comfort.

Drove one and you’ll understand. Even Jeremy Clarkson choose the B5 sedan over the M5 some years ago in a shootout between the two.

Well, he's by his own admission a fat middle aged man, so why would anyone be surprised?

I just don't get the point. What's the benefit of it over an XB7 if.the X5M exists? It's not like the X5M is some.stripped down track car. XB7 makes sense because BMW is a bunch of silly noises when it comes to M.cars and what "is allowed" to be an M.

Just my opinion,I don't see the point.

Don't see the point of XB5 either. Maybe a XD5 for diesel lovers?

I believe BMW recently acquired Alpina, which used to be an independent company. Alpina already had very close ties to BMW so it made sense to bring the operation in-house to better compete with Maybach.
These are high margin vehicles for automakers so I suspect we will see a lot more from them once fully integrated. Also wouldn’t be surprised if we see similar investments from Audi to shore up their S and R offerings that are less established than BMW’s M division and Mercedes’ AMG. They also don’t have a Maybach/Alpina equivalent within the Audi brand that I am aware of. You could argue Porsche but that’s a completely different brand within the group.

What the world needs is an Alpina XB3 that comes with the S68 V8. Now THAT would be cool.
