Steering Vibration Settings
Hi,
There's a setting in the iDrive to control the 'steering wheel vibration': "Warnings are issued by means of a steering wheel vibration. The severity of the steering wheel vibration can be adjusted" I've never felt my steering wheel vibrate. It certainly corrects itself if you stray out of the lane, but I've never felt any vibrations as warnings. The LEDs on the wheel change colour to give warnings. Am I missing something. I'm wondering if it works or is a defect?! |

The vibration occurs for me when changing lanes and the X5 feels the car in my blind spot is too close. To me the vibration isn't very strong so you can overlook it.

I also think it vibrates on either the 9oclock and 3oclock sides not the whole thing, might try hand placement as well.

I find the lane assist kicks in and subtly pushes you back into the centre of your lane before the vibration kicks in. The vibration is felt if you turn on your indicator to change lanes and the car detects another next to you or in your blind spot.

Thanks for the comments. Perhaps it's as simple as I've never caused it to vibrate.
I did turn it up from 'low' to 'high' to see if it made a difference, but nothing. |

I also noticed the 2021 X5 has option for "steering intervention". I thought that is only for driver assistance plus package that I didn't have. Anyway, I turned that option off but I still feel like the steering wheel still wants to make the car not drifting over the lane while vibrates(weakly). I am not sure it is a bug or a feature. I like 2014 X5 just gives strong vibration message - that is all I need. |

Have mine set on the lowest setting and definitely can still feel it, but another vote for an audible alert here. My POS 2014 Mazda CX-5 had an audible alert, which in my opinion is much safer than if you only keep the steering vibration on and not the auto push back.

Sounds like a defect to me based on your experience. I would get the dealer involved. Any chance you worked a jackhammer for an extended period of time in your life?

Apparently all of you are in the minority as BMW changed the severity of the vibration to a lower setting. I assume they did this because of numerous complaints from owners. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...79823-9999.pdf.

I do feel the vibration from steering wheel. I thought the wheels are going over the lane marking, but no, it is the steer wheel vibrations. I do have it set at maximum
