Heated steering wheel comparison

I had read a thread that some owners were unhappy with the amount of heat the M steering wheel puts out, potentially due to the thicker padding.

I used my FLIR camera to take some readings when I had an XLine loaner yesterday. Overall it does feel a little hotter in the XLine, but the temps were comparable depending on where you took the reading.

We actually had a cold day in Texas and I would swear that my steering wheel was much cooler than when I took delivery. Yesterday, I had it on for 45 minutes and it was moderately warm the whole time. I remember trying it right after delivery and I had to turn it off after 5 minutes, it was very hot! I actually prefer the 'new' temperature, but the difference surprised me.

The milder heat from the steering wheel is a known issue with BMWNA. The cause is the sensors in the steering wheel - if the steering wheel gets too hot, the sensor that determines if a user has their hands on the wheel will not work.

However, they are aware of this problem and have a patch to fix this eventually.

I am very happy with the M steering wheel heat. It was very effective last month with -10.

It's definitely not as hot as my f10, but I'm ok with it. It gets warm enough for me.
