Driving Assistant Pro Package for 2024 x5 LCI post purchase

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a 2024 BMW X5 40i in the next 1-2 weeks. Initially I was happy with premium/parking asst package but after doing some research, I want Driving Asst Pro package for the ACC stop and go among other things (Its surprising that it is not standard!)

But the issue is that most of the existing inventory (in and around bay area) either does not come with it or has a load of other features that drive up my budget significantly.

On the bmwusa.com build site, DAP can not be added without premium/parking asst and searching through some of the threads here, it might be the case that the hardware required to enable DAP might already be installed on the car, even though it does not come with the package enabled (I checked out a few cars without DAP and they do have the huge radar on the front).

Has any one tried to install it post purchase on their 2024 x5 or see it as an available subscription option if you don't have one already?

DAP is not available for purchase as a subscription in the US. There was some speculation that at least the adaptive cruise would be available but that doesn't seem to be the case either.

It is a must have option in my opinion and you will regret not having it. Just do a custom build, for most dealers it is the same discount as buying off the lot and with a few even more of a discount.

Don't think so in the US

All X5/X6/X7 have that "sensor" in the bumper regardless of it being optioned or not. However, it is not connected to anything if the DAP was not optioned. I believe only the X1, iX, and maybe the new 7 have the ability to add driving assistance plus (ACC stop & go) after delivery.

I don't think you can do that as the button to activate it will be missing, also other pieces of HW might not come with the car.

Incorrect, the LCI steering wheel has the same buttons on the left hand side with or without DAP.

The buttons might be the same, but without the DAP there’s no LEDs on the steering wheel or the upgraded (additional?) driver attention cameras and IR illuminators. You can’t run DAP without those. There might be ways to hack through it, but probably not since BMW has restricted all kinds of coding.

Yes, you wouldn't be able to add DAP, you'd get Driving Assistance Plus (ACC Stop & Go) which wouldn't need the LEDs, which can be added to other vehicles (X1, iX, and I think the 7)

For the DAP option on the X5, there are additional hardware requirements that must be installed at the initial build of the vehicle. Notably, a vehicle with DAP will include 3 cameras above the rearview mirror.

It’s true premium and parking assistance package is mandatory when equipping driver assistance package, but these two packages are integral to making this car a luxury car and the three packages together make it best in class.

Here’s an example of the cheapest you’ll find one, is literally a carbon copy of my spec down to the paint, sensafin color and wood grain. It has all the core features and none of the pointless/useless appearance and functionality options.

In my experience, BMW of Fremont is easy to negotiate down 5% off MSRP but times are changing and they might be willing to go down even more.

I think this diagram is dated. Just looking at X5s and X7s with Driving Assistance Pro, there are 2 cameras in the circled part of the picture and a third below that for KAFAS. The lens on the driver side is noticeably larger than the one on the passenger side. Comparing that to the X5 without Driving Assistance Pro, it has the same basic setup, but the lens on the driver side is the same size as the one on the passenger side.

I'll try and snag some comparison pics that show vehicles with and without driving assistance pro.

EDIT: now with pictures. Another discerning feature is the horizontal lines. The first two are an X7 and X5 without DAPP. There are two horizontal lines near the cameras. The last one is an X5 with DAPP, it has 3 horizontal lines and the camera lens on the driver side appears slightly different to my eye than the one on the passenger side.

So looking at the front windshield, you'll be able to tell if it has DAPP or not.
