It’s great stuff. I still use it on my Ivory Merino. Sonax is outstanding as well. The complete kit linked below is a no brainer. https://www.autogeek.net/sonax-premium-leather-kit.html |

One thing I hate about leather is how it wrinkles as it ages, I assume UV makes it worse and worse as time goes on? |

Go Sonax. The BMW is great stuff and easier for some to get thats why I always test the oem stuff. In this case the BMW leather care is good.

You can use it on any colored BMW leather.

+1 On the BMW leather care products. I just cleaned and treated the interior of my new X5 45e with Tartufo Merino, wiped it and let it sit a couple of hours. The leather looks just the same, but I feel better and hope/assume that really will help keep the leather nice. I am sure other products work as well, but the OP was about BMWs products...and I am quite happy with them.

Just tried this product over the weekend, cleaned the seats well with a nice matte finish, took about half an hour to clean... v easy to use...

I haven't had good luck with the BMW leather cleaner. It did nothing to remove minor jeans stains from my nappa ivory leather in my 550, whereas other cleaners had no problem. The BMW stuff seems very gentle, which I guess could be a good thing for some people.

I have had pretty good results using the BMW leather lotion with the sponge AFTER cleaning the leather with Meguiars Leather cleaner. I have Ivory Merino and jeans dye does transfer but using this combo every 2-3 weeks keeps the interior looking and smelling new!

Fun fact (?) Regarding "new car smell" for those occupied with that. Most plastics and soft paddings are polyurethanes, EPS or some sort of polymer. Most of them manufactured with some sort of blowing agent that de-gas over time. Through work I talked with a huge german manufacturer of dashboards for several car companies. He claimed that the new car smell was deliberately engineered to gradually disappear within 3-4 years purely to diminish the new car feeling and get us to buy new ones... Not always a bad thing. New Audis smell like old man

Interior care and don't eat in the car. People hate me for it but I allow absolutely zero food in the car. If we go grab food from out, I'll put it straight in the trunk and it will never enter the cabin. But the neurotics have paid off and after 8 years my M5 still smells like it came off the line yesterday. With the X5 it's a bit trickier cause the trunk space is shared with the cabin so I got an airtight storage box from Sterilite (linked below). Any food is immediately placed into the box and the box isn't opened until I take it inside the house. So far no issues! Naturally it helps that we don't have children but there's steps that can be taken that help reduce the smells in the car even with children on board https://www.target.com/p/sterilite-5...s/-/A-15079778

I applied ceramic coating to the Merino leather seats when new, then use a combination of Leather Masters leather dye transfer cleaner (if discolored) or Leatherique rejuvenation and cleaning products (if losing OEM matte finish). The seats (even the entry-side bolsters) are free of stretch marks, discoloration and shine.
I respect those of you who abstain from food in the cabin, but that’s not me. I regularly eat breakfast in my X5, and it’s been serving as our private dining room whenever we eat out during COVID lockdowns. With fastidious cleaning, the interior has no residual smells. |

Depends on many factors but if you are pretty clean and don’t eat in the car, you can just wipe down the leather with a damp microfiber cloth. Then after the first year you can start to condition the leather. Keeping any dirt from building up is your #1 defense with keeping pristine leather so wipe down your leather interior where oils from the hands touch often with a damp microfiber cloth.

Do I need to condition the leather when 1st get the car - or I can just wait till the end of first year - if I do as you suggested above. I very seldom eat in my car - but I don't plan to in this car and generally keep the car clean. I am sure I'll be more aware of keeping this cleaner than my previous cars. |

I have ordered BMW cleaner as in OP post. I've also got their leather cleaning wipes. Did try wipes - they work well as a quick measure to keep seats clean. I would surely try the bottled cleaner later.
In mentioning other leather care products, I am surprised no one mentioned Leatherique. This is one of the best products for leather seats one can find. It makes seats smell and look like brand new. It softens leather very noticeably. I am all for Zaino when it comes to exterior care products, but I'd choose Leatherique for car seats care. Their product, however, requires heat - in other words should be used in summer time, unless one lives in a warmer state. Once a year Leatherique would do excellent with BMW cleaner in between. I use it on every leather surface. You really could use the cleaner several times throughout the year before you would have to condition the leather. FYI: Looks like Autopia has the Sonax kit in stock. It just ordered another one and it took the order. The soft brush that comes with this kit also works great on the alcantara headliner orienting the nap. https://www.autopia-carcare.com/sona...E#.YebtJi9OmfB Last edited by MystroX5; 01-18-2022 at 10:46 AM.. |
