New ride. Upgraded from a 2013 E70... ok wow!

I really wasn't ready to ditch the E70, it drives great and I still liked it just fine. But my wife decided it was time for it to go (I don't know why — it's not even her car) and y'know, pick your battles and all that.

It's my first brand new bimmer in a long time (I have a thing for CPOs). It's also the first car I've ever bought that wasn't black or silver/grey.

I'll come back with more pics once I've pointed a real camera at it, but in the meantime here's a few cell phone snaps plus one of the pics from the dealer's listing. I'm absolutely in love with this paint: so understated in everything but bright direct light, and once it's in the sun it dances!

The lowdown:
xDrive 40i
Phytonic Blue Metallic
MSport Package
22" Style 742M wheels (didn't see myself as a black wheels guy, but here we are)
Coffee Vernasca Leather interior
Parking Assistance package
Premium package

EDIT: lol at my now 11 year old sig pic; I haven't been around here in a while... man I miss that car!

Pics:

Dealer shot

First glimpse I got when I went to pick it up

She's home

My neighbors must think I've lost my damn mind

Love how the color can be really muted & buttoned down in some light, super playful and light in other light. I think the 4 series in front is Portimao Blue Metallic (just a guess).

Really enjoying the ride so far. Steering is too light for me coming from an E90 and then an E70, both of which had hydraulic steering, but the heavy steering was my wife’s main gripe regarding those two cars. I’ll live. The M-sport steering wheel is really nice.

The ride is shockingly good, for M-sport suspension and 22” wheels! I’m guessing the non-runflats have a lot to do with that, but I like how communicative the chassis manages to be, without feeling harsh or uncomfortable.

The Harman Kardon sound system absolutely slaps, damn. I never prioritized good sound in my cars but — wow.

Whole car feels bigger but lighter than the E70, it definitely moves, and it’s silky smooth. It’s amazing that this is the least powerful of FOUR X5 drivetrains lmao. We are so spoiled.

Congrats! The color looks awesome.
While obviously it is a bigger vehicle, when you say it feels bigger your interior color may have something to do with it too. I've coffee as well and when I've had a couple of loaners with all black interior, they feel much smaller when inside.

I’m not through break-in yet, so I’ve had it 100% in comfort, or sport individual where the engine and transmission are still in comfort. The revs never really get past 2,600 or so, mostly living around 2,000 rpm or even below. The transmission is smart and sweet, and always keeps things very drama free.

Even with this gentle setup & lightness on the throttle, the car feels quick and responsive! Merges on the freeway without breaking a sweat, did an 85 mph+ dash to ~4,200 feet elevation & back down (twice, once each way) getting up and over some mountains surrounding LA this week — never felt remotely strained, just totally effortless.

The E70 xDrive35i *never* felt slow to me, super usable power from the N55. And the B58 doesn’t have that much power on the N55... so I’m just shocked at how much quicker this feels! Not super punchy or anything, but you’re just always somehow already at the speed you were thinking about for the situation (or above it).

It’s going to be fun when it finally gets all the sporty settings turned to 11.

Congrats! I agree the ride is pretty good for 22’s on the M suspension. I had an E70 50i and it’s crazy how the G05 is almost as fast yet so refined and smooth. I especially love the less frequent fill ups due to how fuel efficient the 40i is.

Question... have you noticed some excessive road noise while cruising on freeways? It sounds like someone blowing over an empty coke bottle, a hollow like sound. I have that issue on mine and it sometimes can get loud or annoying. It’s something being discussed on another thread and seems to especially happen on the 22’s.

Thank you! No I haven’t noticed any noise like that, but I’ll keep an ear out...

Congrats. I like how the black trim and wheels contrast with the blue.

Installed my spacers today, and took a pic with a real camera too.

I like the car, gang. I like the car.

Looks great.
Is it lowered either by air suspension or spring?

What type and size spacers?

Nope, stock ride height on the M-adaptive suspension (I do wish it was lower, but I don’t see a solution out there I love in terms of longevity + ride quality).

Spacers are 12mm in the front, 15mm rear from Future Classic
