For those of you who have successfuly updated the iDrive through OTA: Do you really have to drive for the software to go from your phone to the car? It seems that no data is being transferred. I downloaded the update to my phone, but that's it so far...

Some have reported it transferring by just sitting there with the engine running but it is best to make the connection and go about your business and let it transfer.

In my case, no, you dont have to drive. If you use iPhone, after software is downloaded to iPhone, once you sit in the car, and if your iPhone connected to BMW via both bluetooth and wifi (BMW app will tell you), it will start uploading software to car. It will take a while (>30 minuets), I guess that's why BMW advice customer to go about their business.

Done. It fixed (so far) the connection issues with the phone.

Ok, got the OTA update to 07/2023.53 a few days ago. ( was running .40)

As far as the update process itself, I initiated it from the MyBMW app running on my iPad actually, and did not even need to go near the car. Took about 20 minutes and all is well.

CarPlay connection issue seems to be fixed ( so far). Fingers crossed.

While I am glad to finally get this fix I’m not super impressed on how long this took BMW to identify and ultimately roll out this fix for a major obvious bug overall.

I did the update last night but I haven’t driven anywhere yet. Does anyone know if the update fixes the issue of the wireless charger heating up iPhones to the point of getting the high temp warning on the phone?

No, that’s a hardware issue of the way the wireless charger tray was designed in the g05. Newer cars now have a small fan within the tray that is suppose to help keep the phone cooler during charge.

11.2023 fixed CarPlay issue?

I had the issue with CarPlay dropping intermittently, then struggling to reconnect. Occurred regularly at specific locations. I was on 03/2023. Updated to 11/2023 at dealer over hte weekend and it might have resolved. In a sample of one drive where I would typically see at least three drops, had none!

Went through genius and help options in car, did the reset, no success, escalated and the email said there was a provisioning issue and to update to 07/2023, or go to dealer if OTA would not provide the update. Booked with dealer, who almost 4 hours later managed to simply reinstall the 03/2023, claiming there were no newer updates. I showed them the email, and they ended up keeping the car overnight, found the 11/2023 update and installed it.

It was a PITA and I sincerely hate my local dealer's service department as they are a hassle every time in contrast to our local Mercedes dealer with outstanding service and courtesy. That said, they ended up not charging me given their incredibly poor communication and disregarding my expressly stated instructions to upgrade to 07/2023 per MBW's instructions.

Long and short from the dealer, which I think is correct, is that BMW has a design defect in the head unit whereby whatever BT channel they are using is more susceptible to interference. Since BMW also decided to force us onto BT only, no cable, the engineers screwed us over on the easy fix, leaving us with a sub-par CarPlay connection. (Seriously, the $20 China BT add ons don't have the issue in those same areas...) 11/2023 may have done something to the connection dynamics, if it indeed fixed the issue. Or it's there and I just got lucky for a change. Hoping to find an excuse to drive the area where I know the drops happen again later this week as a test.

Hi Folks,

I am running 07/2023.53 on my X5 50e and since this OTA update was installed the CarPlay issue has improved dramatically but…

I still get the issue maybe once every 5 or 6 times I start out. Seems to happen when I start out in my garage. I can reconnect once I am on the road but a couple of times I could not and was getting that same Bluetooth error.

Anyone else still having some issues that is running a recent OTA update ?

Thanks

My iPhone connects every time after the most recent software update. That being said, sometimes it connects instantly when I get in the car and other times it takes about 60 seconds.

For those of you still having issues, have you tried waiting a minute to see if it connects?

Updated to same version and have the same experience.

In addition frequently my short cuts are not working. If I select one the display does flash once, but nothing is happening.

i received the notification that 8.5 OTA is out and incoming but that was almost two weeks ago, it did not push the update to my 24 LCI x5 yet and i have automatic downloads enabled for software updates.

how long did you guys wait from the initial heads up notification to the software actually being available to update?

According to a previous SIB, software rollouts can take up to five weeks to get all vehicles so you may need to wait a bit yet.

Just like that... The CarPlay issues are back!

My phone connections keep getting from my 50e.

All of these issues were fixed with a software update performed by the dealer. Then I got an OTA... The problems returned.

When I go to add my phone back, I get the error in the image.

I reboot the head unit and then I'm able to add my phone.

Anyone else having issues after the latest OTA?
