Just took my first road trip in my X5 xDrive 50e: Fredericksburg VA to Charlotte NC and back—350 miles each way, 700 miles round trip. I drove 5 mph above the speed limit using the cruise control. My speed was 70-75 the majority of the trip. I started with a fully charged battery and drove in hybrid eco pro mode using the BMW navigation. On the first tank, with a full battery, I averaged 31.5 MPG and drove about 465 miles and refueled with about 80 miles of range remaining. I could have gone more than 530 miles on the first tank. On the second tank, the battery was depleted, and I averaged 26.7 MPG over the last 196 miles (trip computer on the app resets with each stop). So once the PHEV battery is “depleted” on the 50e, based on my experience you can expect to get 26-27 MPG on the interstate at 70-75 MPH.
