Yes, your M440i would be 8 and the M60i is 8.5. Going to All Apps -> System Settings -> Remote Software Upgrade will show you the version you are running.

It is 11/2023, it doesn't have to be sub version .42.
It doesn't feel good, because we wait patiently for these updates to come to our cars and when they finally do, some of them are new options that have a cost, such as this animation. It clearly doesn't feel good to me, but clearly someone can think differently and it's totally valid, enjoy your $50 bucks led animation.

Its not entirely clear what it provides or does ... Any takers ?!

Its nice they are working on these important high priority features
I would definitely pay to get Android Auto bug's fixed instead of a lame animation that should be free.

Consider a different perspective, I wouldnt feel good if a car that is produced in February had something that my car pproduced in January didnt. At least this way, I can, if I wanted to, get the same thing being offered to newer cars. At least now the option is there for me to consider.

I already optioned for almost everything when I ordered my car, if the led animation was listed at the time I was creating my order, I would probably get it just because in a grand scheme of things, that $50 would amount to nothing compared to the total price of the build.

I also don't understand this thinking. You weren't promised this feature when you bought the car. You didn't pay for it when you bought the car. They are making new features available and giving you the option to buy them. The choice is yours.

Any company that produces something charges for it. Your patience levels are irrelevant. If you don't feel the animations are worth $50, simply don't buy it.

Just imagine if cellphone manufacturers will start charging for the updates on the existing phones: new iOS, new Android, etc. Same idea...
In my mind, when i paid for my car, i invested in the technology platform of the car and that includes future development, bug fixes and new features. Just another perspective

When I buy my phone, I am buying a certain amount of support that goes with it, including OS upgrades. Often times, that level of support dictates purchase decisions. I'm not sure that's the case when buying these cars, as much as we might wish it was.

It's common these days for the latest features to only be available in the most current model, requiring the purchase of new hardware for access to that feature.

You are going to be very disappointed. Many features that are software only may not be available to you but will come standard on future models. When you buy a vehicle you buy it in the current state it is. Future features/options may or may not be available to you and if they are there may be a cost associated with them.

Many of the updates are often hidden bug fixes or to make existing functions work better (adaptive drive is the focus of a large portion oftentimes) ...that we get any actual new feature enhancements is, IMhO, a bonus. BMW doesn't really advertise the OTA updates are new feature related that I've seen, although some are. I look at it like the map updates...situations change, and they're needed to keep up. Those don't come for free forever, either. OTA updates are 'free' while technically possible...My last two BMWs had 3G modems, and wouldn't support updates OTA even for maps.

You are completely right, that's my point. It should be free, charging even $1 for that is absurd.

100% true. They did promise Android Auto compatibility though and it's full of bugs, no fixes in sight, but they did add a $50 animation with an update. Tesla doesn't charge for fart sounds of Christmas light/sound shows on their cars. Equally unnecessary, I'm just pointing out how absurd is to charge for that.

Verify it is active on your ConnectedDrive account and then try updating Apps and Services (assuming that can be done in 8.5).

Then it is currently not available for you. What version of iDrive are you running?

Same for me. I just updated to 11/2023.42 on 8.5

It's odd. I rebooted and updated apps, just not listed in car or online in store.
