All Season Tire options for 22" wheels
Hey all,
Eagerly awaiting production of my X5 M60i to join the BMW family (previously a VW Golf GTI and R family member). I went with the 22" wheels as I loved the Black look and the size just fit the car best to me visually. However, I live in NW Ohio and while I work from home and can avoid driving in absolute terrible snow weather, I do drive in freezing temps often which I know severely hinders performance of summer tires, like the ones that come on the 22" wheels. Looking/reading around, it seems my only options for All Season tires are either the Pirelli P Zero or the Nitto NT420V. Is there a consensus of going with one over the other? Nitto is new to me (never heard of them before now). Is there a new brand/tire I am missing after searching around? Appreciate it and super excited! |

Pirelli A/S 3 for sure. I wouldn’t put Nittos on my BMW. And you’re correct….presently there isn’t much choice. You can Search this forum for several threads on this subject. If your car doesn’t arrive until spring you could drive on the performance tires until fall when more choices may be available . My M60i has P Zero performance tires and after 7,000 miles I love them.

Did some more reading on the Nitto's and came to the conclusion the Pirelli's would be the best choice as well. But I don't see the Pirelli A/S 3's as an option for the X5 on Tire Rack. Only the Pirelli P Zero A/S (Here) |

My bad. You are correct. P Zero A/S. Unless you want to go with a dedicated winter wheel/tire setup which is a PITA. Best of luck.

In case anyone is thinking about trying out the Nitto NT420V tires, I just put them on and have some input on them. First thought is that they feel good. I have air suspension so it might be that to make it not harsh. They are louder, but not by much. If you pay attention with the music/AC off, you will notice they are a bit louder but in no way are they like off-road tires. Once I have more miles on them I will chime back in. FWIW, I came from Pirelli PZ4 summer performance tires and they were nice but the tread wore down real quick.

Accelera and Arroyo Tires are available in 22. Both All Season tires too.
Here the set of OEM size 21/22 A/S Accelera I had originally purchased, but opted to buy the OEM BMW winter set vs switching our the tires on the OEM rims.

It to is a brand owned by Toyo, they're legit and cater more towards performance and enthusiast tires. They started off being big in the import scene, but have grown a lot since then. Good tires. Not usually the best, but good value for the money overall.
I would buy the Nittos before I ran the Arroyo or Accelera Chinese tires. Nitto is a real brand, they're legit. |

I would stick with the major tire manufacturers, Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli found on luxury cars.
BTW all OEM BMW tires have been engineered by the tire manufacturer in collaboration with BMW to provide maximum performance. The formulation of the tire is different from tires found on Tire Rack or Costco for example. There is a video somewhere on this site that explains the difference between BMW OEM tires and Retail tires from the same manufacturer. I plan on getting my next set of tires and alignment from my BMW dealer. They also price match and I trust BMW's alignment more than a tire shop. |
