I went with the 20” wheels and squared up tire configuration too, but not to save money. I thought it would enhance ride quality.
It didn't look like the B&W stereo, leather dash, and a host of interior trims are not available on 50e.

I think "ride quality" is sort of a personal subjective thing. I find my steel suspension, DHP, 22" M50i to ride GREAT. We also don't have a ton of really bad or rough roads here. If you're in pothole city, you might have a different expectation.

It's also worth noting the limited tire options on the 21 and 22" wheels.

Fell in love with the X5 after test driving Genesis, Lexus and finally an X5. I liked the noticeable horsepower difference between the base x5 and 50e, and thought I’d dip my toes in the electric world, so to speak, without going fully EV. My daily commute is about 25 miles r/t, so if I want to I could do that totally on battery. I’d probably install a level 2 charger in my garage for convenience. The problems I’ve been reading related to the 50e has me a little worried about what I’m getting into after spending that much money. For approximately $10k more, I can get a nicely loaded M60i. My window to change my mind is obviously closing. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks
I have a week 11 production date for a 50e as well and looked at the same cars you did, plus MBZ and Porsche. I wanted a comfortable mid size hauler that I could fill up at home instead of the gas station when driving around town. If you want "...something more sporty and agile. I’m tired of driving a what feels like a houseboat. ", why are you looking at a 2 1/2 ton SUV? No SUV will meet that criteria. If you want a sports car, buy a sports car. For $90K you can get a cheap Porsche that will run circles around any SUV. Even a Mazda MX-5, for 1/3 that much, will probably outperform the M60i.

I’m really pleased with the 50e. I have had no issues this far.

I came from a large SUV as well and shared your same concerns. I have a short commute and installed a level 2 charger. 3 hour charge. I filled up my tank for the first time after 75 days of ownership.

Battery range is typically around 40, but with the exteme cold weather, heat running on high, and some preconditioning while not plugged in, it’s currrently between 30-35. It will trend up on longer trips.

It’s fun to drive and technology is on point. I don’t miss my large SUV.

The ASS is a non issue on my M60i......once I had placed my order I was reading all of the complaints on here and was worried. It's seamless and not even noticeable.

WTGBMW the crowd here nitpicks at everything since this is a focus group sub, after all.

I’m the same way. Never understood the whole anti ASS. Same with climate controls being digital.

I’ve had the m60i for 6 months now in North NJ (so we do have actual seasons) and I think I’ve touched the climate control maybe once or twice. It’s such a nonissue for the vast majority of people.

Same with ASS. Most people don’t give a damn about it. Now that LCI has the mild hybrid, to your point, it’s less noticeable.

I'm on my third car with ASS and it is a complete non-issue. I'll admit I was a little concerned for my first, but quickly accepted ASS. It works very well and is nearly unnoticeable. For those who are strongly anti ASS, I think it's more philosophical or ideological than practical. And now that we are several years into ASS, it's my impression at least that the complaints are on the wane.

I probably overstated my sports car desire with my “sporty and agile”comment. But, after driving a Yukon for 6 years, I wanted to stay with an SUV that would feel more “fun” to drive. I found even the base 40i put a smile on my face, and not sure I would do a v8 justice by driving it as it’s meant to be. I think your second sentence applies to me, as well. If not for me reading all the horror stories in this forum about the 50e, I wouldn’t likely give my initial decision a second thought. I guess that’s what warranties are for…peace of mind.

I had an order for 50e sitting on my desk last June 30. On July 1 I tossed it and ordered a M60i. Picked her up on Aug 22 and now at 7200 miles I’m loving it. Zero regrets here.

Used to be in the exact same position, I was in love with 50e and plan to buy it and my specs was around 90k, after configuring with 60i with 10k more, I have a very well optioned V8, its a tough decision. The M60i has a lot of default options which make a bit more sense if you plan to configure a fully loaded 40i or 50e, I finally went with the last gen V8 as I have never owned any V8 in my life, I think I will still have plenty of opportunities in future to own a PHEV

In the final analysis both are fine vehicles. A level 2 charger is a must for the 50e and your daily commute can be done on e power only. You do lose some cargo space and there’s no room for a space saver spare which is a must for me, RFT's or not. The 50e issues on this forum reflect a somewhat larger than normal ownership group with significant issues. I’d like to think that BMW has figured it out by now. It’s a complex machine. My dad used to say “complexity = more things that can go wrong”.
Real world…My M60i averages 18 mpg around town and 24+ on the road. It has 22” performance tires and rides nicely. The tech is great but has a learning curve. I hardly notice ASS and have no problem with touch screens. Haptic technology is the future. I’m 75 y.o. and fairly tech savvy. 2-axle air suspension is cool. The HK system is fine for me.
The 40i is also a fine and sporty SUV. I went with the V8 largely because I wanted another one b4 they become obsolete. The S68 M engine is the finest in its class. I also spec'd a Cayenne S but couldn’t justify the additional $20k. It’s in no way $20k more car.
I had a GMC 1500 Denali and much like your Yukon, it never saw a gas station it didn’t like. That 6.2L 8 banger is quite manly but very thirsty.
Best of luck on your journey.

So I have a 50e, and live in UK so fuel isn’t that cheap, but if I did a 25mile commute I would go with 60i

Because
Exterior styling more sporty than 50e

That v8 it will be gone soon enough

Dynamics will be great to drive

Because you can!

No brainer for me

Finally ask for extended test drive on both

Enjoy what ever you decide

As an update, I cancelled my 50e order. Found a M60i at one the of Houston locations that has everything I wanted and more. I’ll go electric in the future. Got a decent discount, and meant spending about $12k more. I hope the 22 inch wheels ride okay. They sure look great on that vehicle. It does have the 2-axle air suspension, so I’m hopeful that helps. Looking forward to the B&W stereo system!

Cityman Congrats. I have the same spec with Skyscraper over Ivory. The 22's look great and from my experience they will ride just fine in your climate.

Congratulations., exciting! I’m expecting mine the next couple weeks. Tough market with getting a discount. I got 1/4 of what I used to get as a discount. Am curious if you don’t mind my asking, how much of a discount did you get?
