Is it possible to change order once car is locked for production?

Hi All,

I order X5 50e in UK on 9th March and was told approx delivery time of August this year. I ordered M sport with tech pack with a lease company.

I would like to upgrade wheels from standard 20" to 21" and from tech pack to tech plus pack but the lease company said can not do that as car is already locked for production.

I am prepared to pay for upgrade just want to see if anyone has experience this before?

many have experienced last-minute desire to change their order. double check the vehicle’s status code, but if it’s in status 150, then no changes can be made. if you really must have those upgrades, cancelling the order and re-ordering is the only way. (the only orders that have a small window of opportunity to change order details while in status 150 are BMW Individual vehicles, but even then, only certain aspects can be changed, not just anything.)

Individual orders are technically locked once accepted and it takes extra effort for the dealer to get any changes approved to the order even in 111 or 112 status. Changes definitely won’t be happening in 150 status regardless if it’s individual or not since the various parts are being obtained and lined up for the just in time production of the vehicle for the day it hits 151 status and beyond.

That is not exactly how Individual orders work. They are not locked upon acceptance but rather a last change date is assigned, it is the Ind. Block Date on the VIR. This is usually a few days to a week or so from the time the order is accepted. Once that date has past, changes are no longer allowed to the order.

You can contact Genius at BMW UK, I think many people use the chat function. From your production number they should be able to give you the status.

My understanding was that once the individual order is accepted it is locked from allowing the dealer to make any changes on their end and they need to instead reach out to BMW directly to process any order changes, thus my statement about it taking extra effort to make any modifications. 🤷🏻‍♂️
