Extra boost is a feature found on Hybrids, but like KERS in F1
Interesting

"Extra boost" is a function used in the X5 45e's where the electric motor is used as a booster for the petrol engine to provide momentary extra acceleration.

It has no impact or effect on our 30d's.

Every h/w iteration costs almost as much as the previous one, hence, unlike software, you generally need to get h/w right the first time (unless your volumes are such that you can afford multiple h/w revisions to be in the field).

If I had nothing to do and thought there was actually enough of a market, I'd design and manufacture a decent interface myself, but that's not the case and the software/firmware behind these is not trivial if reliability and compatibility is the target (as, of course, it is). What I might consider, however, is an interposer (a "hardware power firewall", LOL) design between car OBD and these semi-broken interfaces to manage power flow between those (only very partially helps the security issues, however) ...
Well it seems this isn't a unique problem by a large stretch: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32266746525.html No excuse for either MHD or modBMW on this, however.

Really?! How tough would it have been for them to just put a tiny on/off switch on the OBD adapter?

In my previous X5 (F15) I build in a (hidden) switch on the OBD port to avoid hacking/theft. I cut the wire for pin 16, extended the wires and placed the switch somewhere hidden. Was a very simple/low cost fix, that could be used in this case as well.

Is there a way to get this instrument cluster though BimmerCode?

Can the Auto High-Beam be coded to automatically come on without having to press the button?

Yours doesn't already do that? I can set that with the bottom button on the turn signal stalk.

Weird question. High-beam assist remains in previous state between car on/off cycles for me. Last time I touched that button was probably when I was testing anti-dazzle coding many months ago. It has stayed on auto the entire time since then. Yours doesn't work that way?

Humm, I thought I had to activate it every time. I'll have another look this evening.

Can we code the Anti Dazzle using Expert Mode?

Nope, too many ECUs are touched for Bimmercode.

I noticed two different M displays, one generic "M" one and another that specifically says "X5M."

Here is one that was posted earlier in this thread and supposedly depicts the "M" display option that is found in BimmerCode.

However, I stumbled upon this instrument cluster from an X5M.

Is there a way to get the X5M one? I presume choosing the "M" version in BimmerCode will change it to the generic "M" one (top).

Thanks.

Thanks. That’s too bad. I really like the gauge setup of the X5M versus what we have now.

Any idea if that will eventually be coded in?

hard to say but there's some pretty intelligent coding guys on here so if/when it's possible i imagine we'll know

I assume it will require a software update and then new coding options might become available

iDrive 3/2020.31

I coded for Assisted Driving View, and coded to be able to set climate rules for all seats..

I can no longer select Automatic Time, and weather will not get data.

I have tried to restore from back up and they are still broke. :-(

Reboot iDrive. It's unlikely to be from coding.

I removed then re coded for both all seat climate rules and advanced driver assist. I can no longer select Automatic time, after a hour weather data came back.
