Personally, I think they should have detuned the 6 cylinder for regular. Our Expedition makes 375hp out of its 3.5L Ecoboost on regular. That's a WAY bigger deal to me.

That said, to be totally honest, if I was buying an X7, I'd probably be more inclined to get the lower power I6 vs the V8. There's a size where stuff stops being fun, and the x7 might be over that size, or at least feel like it is. Our Expedition absolutely is too big to be fun. The X5, still small enough to be fun when pushed. Not as fun as an R53 Mini Cooper S, but still more fun than trudging along in a Lexus.

Agreed, not that I worry about those cost when dropping this type of money on an SUV. It was one of the factors of us going with the BMW over the model X. Model X insurance is twice as much and the X seems to depreciate even more that the German US assembled X5

If so, my interpretation of data is wrong…. Does RX and X5 compete in the same market segment, I thought x5 is a lot bigger than RX….

I went from a ‘23 X7 40i to a ‘23 X7 M60i for several reasons, but can say the V8 is fun in the “this is totally ridiculous and doesn’t make any sense” aspect. It’s not a sports car but it brings a grin on my face in sport plus mode. Does it make sense for a 7-seater 6000lb family car? Probably not…

With that being said, I 100% agree with you in that I think the 40i is the right choice for the X7. It just drives better all around - no pedal lag like the M60i, super linear unlike the M60i, sounds great, doesn’t guzzle gas.

Ok, fair, I was being obtuse. Smashing the gas in it is still gonna be fun, amd i'd have a hard time convincing myself that I really really don't want the V8. All that said, personally, I think the PHEV is the right powertrain for the X7, and that's what it should have launched with.

I think exterior dimensions wise, they're competitive, but rear cargo space the RX gets slaughtered. You might be thinking of the NX? It's like a RAV4.

The are both in the luxury midsize segment. The RX has been the sales leader in the segment for many years and is once again in 2023.

This is incorrect. It is the other way around. X5 is big on exterior, but with a long hood. Interior passenger space is smaller than RX. X5 combined leg room is on the order of Honda CRV. I have measurement here for comparison if you search. RX trunk volume is small and less practical due to the slender tail gate. If Lexus makes it as vertical as x5, then their cargo may win as well. RX 2nd row is also moveable. So you can reduce leg room and gain some cargo. Now if you make RX same combine leg room as X5, I wonder how cargo volume compare. Our primary use of SUV is family hauler, and with rear facing child seat. Combine leg room is one of the highest priority. X5 works, but by no mean the most spacious in the segment.

Happy New Years Eve!

Thought I'd end this posting with an update. I decided to keep the 50e (even with the hitch assembly). The ride and overall gas mileage are just too awesome to me. Also, I spoke with my sales guy who sold me the X5, and he said that on his X4 M-Competition, he gets like 8MPG and has serious buyers remorse. I guess that is all I needed to hear to be at peace with my decision.

I have been going back and forth on either X5 50e or M60i. Problems with 50e giving me pause but gas mileage is factor with 40 miles round trip to work daily.

Wow! I had no idea the RX was the sales leader in the segment given how ugly they look and how anemic the engine is. The interior is quite nice though in terms of fit and finish. The tech is 5 years behind BMW. I guess Toyota knows what their buyers look for. Surprised to see Rivian in that group as well. Although, I am seeing a few in the DMV area now…

If you're worried about the gas mileage and 50e issues, get a 40i. The purchase price difference alone will make up for your fuel economy.

I agree, 8MPG seems ridiculous. I think he was just being silly to make point that the pure gas M-cars burn fuel like crazy. But isn't that why you buy a M car.. for power up the ying-yang?

Of course I've had my 50e for over three months now and still haven't put any gas in it. I plug in at home and the 40 mile range is perfect for my 16 mile commute each way. It only cost about 80 cents to "fill up" too, since I charge during off-peak hours.
Don't forget to factor in the 4% rebate as well.

10 lanes in my local Costco, each lane has 3 pumps. If 5 min per car, this is 6 cars per minute serving rate. Wait time is usually less than 5 min. To get 20 min wait, there are 120 car in front, very unrealistic.

Depends on your location. Some do indeed have a long wait, especially after work.
