In this picture and angle, it's hardly noticeable....

First, congratulations! Great color combination you ordered!

Second, the issue with the steering wheel leather would be far less of a concern than the plastic cover above the wheel - that would bother me a lot more!

Thanks! Yes I agree, I was able to fix it and it is hardly noticeable. I might use some tools to further straighten it out but it is not bothering me so much. It is about 90% better than before and I know I can still make it look better.

The plastic is painted and getting the same exact piece to match the original factory paint might be tricky.

This is how it looks now when you see it from below. But when standing up and looking straight it is not obvious.

Can't believe Bmw quality control on these high-end cars.

It does make you wonder about quality control, doesn’t it!!

Buckybadger, that definitely, would irritate me with the wheel trim. I'm sure that would be a simple fix for the dealer if you can't get it to your satisfaction. Don't wait too long ago if you want it fixed by dealer, you wouldn't want them to try and blame you for it.

Thanks!

I think I will leave it as it is. It is barely noticeable unless you go looking for it.

I have very low expectations from the dealer. They usually fix one thing and create new damage elsewhere. I just can't trust the dealer anymore but If it's a must fix then there's no option. If this was an exterior ding or dent on the door then I would definitely go back.

I can still mold the trim a bit and it should look much better. No one will know.

Maybe when I go for my first service I will bring it to their attention, if needed.

Here is another close up picture but I'm sitting down. When you stand up and look, it's very hard to tell.

I feel that the X5 in sport plus feels so good. The steering on center is great.

One thing, I just noticed a slight impression of 2 lines on my steering wheel. Please check out the last pictures I have posted. You only see the lines if you look closely and they are not deep at all. Can I fix the impressions using a leather conditioner? Sales guy says it is from the factory so only thing they can do is try to replace the steering. But I prefer if it can be made better to look or fixed. He said it might get better as the leather unfolds.

I got the 3rd row as well and surprisingly it has enough room for short adults.
Did you order or find on lot?

I did a customer order. It took almost 2 months to get it, mainly because I ordered merino leather and 3rd row. This can take extra time. Overall, car is in great shape. Just minor things but shouldn't be expecting this on a high end 5 series.

I have not ever seen anything like that. Do you think your dealer would deal with it the right way? I know what you are saying when it’s brand new you go over it very closely. The white certainly accentuates it more than any other color. On the airbag cover, use a warm/hot damp wash cloth and sit it on those marks. Lightly rub it and those marks should disappear. Most finishing departments at the manufacture does this trick for little leather marks. In reality your dealer should easily be able to get you a new airbag cover and pop it right on.

What’s the color of your leather and your interior trim?

I got coffee extended merino leather and anthracite wood trim. The wood is kind of rustic and exposed, so it may not be everyone's taste. Also got the glass controls and they definitely add a "pop" to the interior ambience.

I am very happy with the interior and exterior combination. It goes well with mineral white. I feel coffee leather is the most underrated interior color. It's amazing in person.

Me too. It is an amazing combination. Looks very good in day light and even at night with interior lights.

By the way, since its wood, whats your plan for its upkeep and normal dash cleaning. I am planning to use just damp cloth and no chemicals. Do you have any other plans?

I am very conservative and use the best products. I prefer using Zaino and swisswax products. Meguires interior cleaner is all right too. But I try to minimize putting too much stuff in my car.

Agreed, amazing combo and the coffee looks so rich and fancy with the white.

Hi everyone,

This is the best I could do to make the trim look better. Do you guys think I should still get it replaced or leave it as it is?

Can the dealer order a painted trim for me from the factory? I think color matching could be tricky otherwise.

i would get a heat gun to warm it up then put a small ball there or something to hold it in place until the plastic cools down. that should make it 100%

I wouldn't want the dealer mechanics to be messing around with my new car.

Thanks, dealer will have to order a new trim and then paint match it. I think it's too much hassle and may lead to undesirable results.

We picked up our X5 sDrive40i (xLine) yesterday and our steering wheel has lines on it similar to yours, but further to the left! I didn't notice it until we got home, but even then, it's not something that bothers me anyway. Just thought it was funny and I remembered your post when I saw it! I will post photos of it when I can. You're not longer alone in this, buckybadger !

First reaction when I saw mine - really pissed then thought again carefully how dealer can further mess things up - I just got used to look at the road ahead instead of looking at the steering wheel “that much”
