Anyways checked the yellow sticker on driver side. It must be generic. X5 40i with and without air suspension both have 849lbs and payload. |

I guess increased payload is from air suspension? (All configurators make you choose 2 axel air suspension by choosing 3rd row seat) - I have no idea how air suspension increases payload. Anyways, I am pretty sure German X5 and US X5 are same cars made in same US factory. I wonder why BMW published such a conservative figure for payload. |

Air suspension may increase payload. Air suspension is adjustable and more robust that regular coil springs. Payload on the passenger cars is usually limited by the suspension which is tuned for comfort.

I asked a BMW chassis engineer via LinkedIn and got the following reply:

I bought a 2019 X5 50i with a lot of options (ZMP, ZDY, ZDH, etc.) that probably add a good bit to it's curb weight. Before purchasing I visited a scale and calculated the actual payload: 1,220 pounds. The actual curb weight with options was 5,240 pounds and the GVWR is 6,460 pounds.

You are right, the payload is only 849lbs according bmw group press when g05 is released. But I don't get it, the curb weight is 4813 lb, the gross vehicle weight is 6162, so the difference is around 1300 lb. why the pay load only 849 lb? |

Your payload capacity is likely higher - visit a scale to determine your actual curb weight, which will be the basis for your payroll capacity. The Ford dealership I bought mine from said that yellow stickers are often underrated on the assumption that people will exceed them. The GVWR is what you need to respect, in my opinion.
