Yes even buying, just know the interest rate deals and what you can borrow the money for at local credit unions etc so you can always borrow the money elsewhere on a buy.

What it really comes down to is just being smart about the process, read up on it, know all the numbers and details, dealers love people that just come in and pay MSRP and don't know anything, but if you come in smart and know something you are more likely to get a good deal and they are less likely to try any of the typical profit adders on you. I find they shoot pretty straight when they know your stuff and back off right away on any other attempts to add profit since you will know it is happening. Then it is a relatively level playing field both you and the dealer know where all the money is and you are just agreeing on both sides to how much they will make no games.

Just order a 2019 X540i through a out of state dealer. received a good discount and financing rebate. My wife wanted to add options that will not be available until first part of 2019. The dealer told me that they cannot place the order with the factory and have our order on hold for a few months until these options are available.
I am ok with the current ordered options but like to keep my wife happy !
Does anyone know if that is really true that we can not pre order options ?

What options are holding it up - I ordered mine 3 weeks ago with ZDY which isn't available yet, but they could order it and get a build week assigned after the option starts production, maybe they can't if it is to far out but maybe others can chime in if they have orders in for options that are out further like 3rd row.

My dealer told me that they have to wait until January to put my order in and some rebate incentives may no longer be available by then !

That doesn't sound legit to me - I didn't order it as didn't want to wait, wonder if anyone has an order in with it? I certainly could order an option not available until Dec almost a month before it was available and get the first build week it was available.

Yeah, that's a good point. I just texted my dealer and asked him to check into changing it to ZDY, should know how it changes the build tomorrow.

I placed my 40i order back in July for a week 50 (December) build date due to the 3rd row. Now it's been pushed back to February production. Dealer never said there would be an issue with placing order for features not yet available. Only thing I need to look into is I also have the luggage package 418 ordered with the 3rd row and the factory accepted the order however I can't picture how that's possible...guess I'll find out soon enough

Basically ZDB is the 5AU Active Driving Assistant Pro option
ZDY is the same plus it adds 5AR Extended Traffic Jam Assistant for limited access highways.

So basically ZDY is supposed to ad a more advanced autonomous driving mode on major highways with indefinite hands off the wheel in the right situations. If forget what the max speed it, but it is designed for in traffic, so it is 49 or 59 mph I think.

If your order status is 112 or before you can change it, if it is 150 status or higher you cannot make changes.

That would be my guess is that it will just be delayed - I was originally week 50 with ZDY but they moved it up to week 49. The order guide just says 12/18 so not sure when it is exactly available - my dealer could not give any specifics on when it exactly would be available, so either it will be available 12/1 and that is why the order was moved up or they will delay it if it isnt.
