gotta be careful focusing on any one data point from a given deal. it's easy to end up not comparing apples to apples.

it's a shell game for the dealer. more moving parts (lease vs buy, trade in vs none, etc) the harder it gets to compare any one component of the deal.

Excellent point. These posts great and I thank the members who've shared their deals with us, but many are missing key informration. What I think would be great is a simple format members who actually closed deals that include:

MSRP
- Discount/incentive #1 with description
- Discount/incentive #2 with description
....
- Discount/incentive #n with description
= Net price before taxes, delivery, license, fees, etc.

That way we can see the total discount off MSRP of the car itself while the comparison is still apples vs apples before its gets complicated with financiing, lease, and or trade ins.

Thoughts?

Deal Check

I am just starting negotiations. I received this email from a local dealer. I am looking to purchase this vehicle. Can someone tell me what they think of this offer, and what my next move should be. I love getting a new car but I hate the process!

Thanks

"Thanks so much for your time on the phone a moment ago, it was a pleasure speaking with you. As per our conversation, I spoke with my sales manager in regards to the new 2019 BMW X5 xDrive40i you selected.

Loyal BMW clients are eligible for $3000 in rebates toward a finance purchase. So including these rebates, we're happy to offer you a net selling price of $56,135 from MSRP $62,795. With your vin, I was able to do a bit of research - my sales manager has offered to cover two of your four remaining lease payments if you'd like to get into our new X5 this month!

Are you available at all this week to stop by?"

Seems like a great start - take away the 3k that is not the dealers money, so that leaves you with a discount of 3660 which is 5.8% off msrp and if they cover 2 payments on top of that you are doing pretty well (unless your payments are like 100 bucks).

My lease payments are $780. Should I use BMW financing or look around? Any other suggestions? Thank you btw!

You have to finance through them to get the $2000 incentive, the $1000 is customer loyalty so you get that either way. You would need to find an interest rate of more than 1% than what BMW is charging to save that 2k in interest over 4 years. Just be careful the dealer isn't marking up the interest rate to cover the other discounts and make sure you know what local credit unions etc are charging to compare - BMW current rate this month is 2.89%, doubt you will get something under 2% anywhere, so would be worth taking the 2.89% and 2k incentive I would guess.

If they cover 2 payments at 780, then you are getting 8% out of them (they may not be any money out of pocket covering those payments, but to you it is 1560 extra off if you want out early).

It was not my intention to get something before my lease was up. I thought I had a 45,000 mile lease, but I realized that I am 41,000 miles on my 36,000 mile allowance. If I wait, I'll also definitely need to replace my tires. I am probably borderline right now. I love my car now, but who doesn't want a brand new X5 sooner rather than later? I guess I just want someone to tell me I am getting a good deal and to go for it, or talk me out of it completely.

On a side note, I also want to get a tow hitch. Is it feasable to get that thrown in on the deal?

Thanks again for the info you've given so far. The financing makes sense now.

Invoice is roughly 7.5% off which they still make money on with hold back etc, but I have maybe seen one person report getting more off than that, lots of people got 3-5%. If you want out of the lease early (and makes sense as you are paying for every mile you keep driving, I would say it is a good deal. As for the trailer hitch, never hurts to ask, I think they may have more ability to make your over mileage go away or discount that - if you are 6k over, that is 1200 in mileage you will owe at 20 cents per mile, I would go after having them make that go away for you on top of what they offered.

I got a quote from another dealer and cancelled my order with the initial one. Sewell in Grapevine was only offering 2% + incentives which is more of a joke than a serious price. I was offered 6.06% from Passport BMW in Maryland which is much better. I live in Texas and don't mind buying in other states if they want to provide a better deal and accompanying service.

Quote breakdown

X5 50i

MSRP: $97960
Discount (6.06%): $5937.35
Delivery fee: $995

Price before tax with delivery fee: $93017.65

Edit: I purposely left incentives our because they will change before I take delivery in January. I could add the BMWCCA $1000, USAA $500 and BMW $1000 loyalty and BMW $2000 if I financed through them but this is just to show what you get without those off MSRP.

Has anyone seen a better offer on a 50i custom order? I shopped around and got some others ranging between 2-6% but this is likely where I'm buying mine.

If I added all of the incentives I qualify for up it would be a $10137.35 discount on a custom order.

I. e. the end price before tax would be $87797.65 for a total discount of ~10.35%

I've had the same experience in Portland. They won't budge off MSRP. Kuni only offered $2700 off on a 2018 F15.

Can the $2k APR credit and the $1k loyalty credit be combined, assuming I finance through BMWFS and qualify for loyalty? My dealer said no but I'm not sure that's accurate.

Yes.

You can get the 2k apr plus 1k loyalty for a total of 3k if you finance via bmw fs. Dealer should honor that along with the 2.89 apr - its literally listed on the bmw website and i just received an email from BMW na promoting this as well.

I concur - it is on the website and have also received the email and it says it can be combined and several other people have posted them being offered together by other dealers.

Hendrick BMW Charlotte said they are not giving nothing off on the car! HAHA! Any Sales advisors interested in my business please PM me...

Others who are shopping out of state, are you individually reaching out to each of these dealers or is there some sort of lending tree for car shopping :-)

Is this only when you take the car by a certain time, more specifically by December 2nd in order to get the $1000 loyalty discount? I see the $2000 APR has to be approved by December 2nd but you have up to 60 days to take stock of the car. But the $1000 loyalty credit says you must take the car by December 2nd. I'd love to be proven wrong in this case.

Ya we will see, it may just get renewed for Dec, my signed deal includes the 1000 loyalty and the dealer knew I would not be getting the car until mid to late Dec, so will see when I pick it up I guess for sure.
